BMW and M Power Owners

I took out the BMW warranty for my 530i specifically to get Emergency Service as you couldn't buy ES monthly but you could buy warranty with ES monthly.

So you've maintained BMW service history? Did they do any checks on your car before you took it out?

Yes but this isn't a requirement, you can still take it out if you've not, IIRC. But you must keep it up whilst the policy is in force.

No.

Does that have to be at BMW or do they accept servicing at a BMW Specialist?

What's a rough cost of turbo or HPFP repair on these?

The HPFP part is £300. Plus diagnostics, plus labour. About £600 frpm an independent or £700 from dealer. Turbos are horribly expensive. Think about £2k for both, new, or £1.2k reconditioned, plus diagnostics plus labour. I'd estimate about £3.5k from the dealer all in or £2k from an independent.

This is a mistake. Reconsider this.
Would really like to do sonething similar to what you did, and the gf is onboard with it, but just got to find time.
Seen quotes on various forums ranging from £2400 to £4000.

The turbos or gearbox dying are the only things that really worry me, as most parts have dropped loads (injectors are £100 each as opposed to when they were £220 a while back). Luckily all level of BMW warranty covers turbos and gearbox so i might have to go for one of the lesser products :(

The Turbo's are my main concern. I expect bills for other stuff as that is part and parcel of owning any car. Anything else i need to be wary of on the 335i Gaygle , Got any pictures handy of your car?

I don't think the turbos are hugely problematic, its more injectors, HPFP and random bits like iDrive really.

And as we are about to have a post your 335i session.. ;)

Very nice.

Most stories i have read on the net refer to the wastegates failing iirc. Whether or not this is specific to the 335i 335d i have no idea.

Thought I'd chip in with a non-horror story of a 335i.
I've had mine for over three years now with no warranty (well, it had the BMW warranty for a bit when I bought it, but I let this lapse) and not a thing had gone wrong with it.
Just needed the standard consumables.

I know I probably should get a warranty, but I figure that I can cover the costs if anything does go wrong so I'll just leave it.

Watch this space for a post about the HPFP going in the next few months now I've said that :p

No.

What's stopping you taking out the warranty for a month and then claiming for an existing fault?

Pretty daft question then.. like asking whats to stop you crashing your car, taking out insurance and pretending you only just crashed, or whatever. It's illegal.

They protect themselves to some degree against it by not starting the warranty for a month after the date you buy it.

It's fraud, all tarted up as a victimless crime.

Pretty legitimate question, thanks. I would have thought that the car would have to undergo something similar to a 111 point check prior to the warranty purely to protect themselves from fraud. Seems really bizarre that you can just ring up and take out a warranty on a completely untested 10 year old, 200k car.

These are the only few i have until i pick it up tomorrow and get a decent photo done
