BMW and M Power Owners

That rather depends if its a 760iL or a 116i!

63k would annoy me, a 59k mile car would be no more expensive to buy but far cheaper to warrant.

I always want to ask, how do they check and validate?

Say I buy one at 59k. Do I do it online or take it to the nearest BMW dealer? (all the while hoping the odo won't tick over the magic number)

You provide them with the mileage when taking out the policy (online or over the phone), they do not require you to prove the mileage, at least with me I did not have to.

For an a BMW Warranty E90/92 under 60k Miles:

Comprehensive Cover (inc Emergency Service) -

£0 excess - £546pa (or £50pm)
£100 excess - £448 (or £41pm)
£250 excess - £363 (or £34pm)

Excluding Emergency Service = -£80pa or £9pm

Named Component Cover (inc Emergency Service)

£0 excess - £477pa (or £44pm)
£100 excess - £399pa (or £37pm)
£250 excess - £331pa (or £30pm)

Excluding Emergency service = -£80pa or £9pm

Driveline Cover (inc Emergency Service)

£0 excess - £393pa (or £36pm)
£100 excess - £338pa (or £32pm)
£250 excess - £291pa (or £27pm)

Excluding Emergency Service = -£80 or £9pm

Buying the BMW warranty before your car ticks over 60k miles is a very good idea if you pay for it monthly. This is because once a car ticks over 60k miles, the cost of the warranty increases dramatically. For example, if you take out the ANNUAL policy and you car is on 59k miles it will cost circa £540 all in one go (monthly would be £50) for the Comprehensive Warranty inc ES. However, when you come to renew the warranty next year and you car is inevitably over 60k miles, it will cost £914 for the Comprehensive Warranty inc ES. However, if you had paid for the warranty MONTHLY when you were on 59k miles, you would pay the same amount (£50) indefinitely, regardless of what mileage was on your car, as long as you kept up the monthly payment.

The monthly payment option isn't like car insurance where you pay for a 12 month policy, but monthly - it is just you paying monthly for however long you want to.

EDIT: Good god, the prices seem to have gone up recently for the BMW Warranty! Ignore the prices above - these were prices from last September and thought they would stay relatively similar.

Under 60k miles it's now £660pm for 12 months cover inc emergency service, last year it was £546!! Last year:eek:

This has left me in something of a pickle. I'm not paying £570 for a warranty, when i only paid £460 last year. Not sure what to do.

I feel sorry for the poor sods who have over 60k mile cars. A comprehensive warranty from BMW is no longer an option for them. A £0 excess, comprehensive warranty with Emergency service is now £1129 for over 60k milers!!

It's weird, because my mum only recently (2 months ago) renewed her warranty for her E90 LCI and it was only about £450. I hope they do a special deal for those renewing the warranty as opposed to taking a new one out. I saw someone on here got his warranty on a under 60k mile M5 for about £600 - could have been NVP *EDIT: It was "DAAAAAVEEEE"*?? This shows there is obviously some lenience in their prices considering the standard price on the website is around £1200 for an M5?

Just checked - they still offer comprehensive on over 60k cars. The price has gone up, though, as you say. Seems theyve put the prices up by about 20% though.

So they've binned comprehensive for cars over 60k now!?

Nope, but they might as well of done.

A £0 excess, comprehensive warranty with Emergency service is now £1129 for over 60k milers!! Or £104 a month!

Its coming up as £41.66 a month at 63000 miles for named component.

Yeh, if you put in that you have an over 60k mile car on their website, it automatically selects named component cover with £100 excess, even though comprehensive is still avaliable. I presume they don't want to scare prospective customers away with the price of the comprehensive cover!

If you put in you have an under 60k mile car, the website automatically select Comprehensive £0 excess.

Would feel guilty faking it and knowing my luck get caught out in some way.

Sorry for all the questions but, what does the emergency cover give you over a policy without it?

It's a fully featured UK and Europe recovery service with replacement hire car, hotel accomodation, etc etc.

Without it they'll just tow you to the nearest main dealer to the breakdown.

The standard cover means that if you are stranded, they will come out to you, look at the vehicle, try and get it going, if not they will recover it back to the dealers. It's up to you from there.

For the Emergency service add on see here as there are many benefits:

Emergency service is good, but for me, it isn't worth the £90 more a year. I don't do many long journeys. If i do, it's not normally imperative i get to where i'm going on time. I have no plans to drive within Europe in my car.

What's a rough cost of turbo or HPFP repair on these?

Pretty much sums up my driving mate. If i do travel any great distance, it is usually in a company vehicle anyway. Still might take advantage of it though as it is only another £2 a week.

Hi All,

Got a query about my e46 328i, when going from 1.5-2k rpm and back down again there is a sort of hissing/gurgling sound, is it some sort of valve maybe? Anyone with the same engine have the same noise?

So far I've had to replace a parking sensor and the exhaust cam sensor, and tonight I'm replacing the final stage blower resistor. My parents had zero problems for about 5 years, and now I'm getting them! Still, nothing too bad. :)

Stick this on one of the bmw forums, e36coupe is still a good source for e46 issues.
