BMW and M Power Owners

The 8-speed auto. The car is beautiful in comfort mode (adaptive suspension was ticked), and feels really "on it" in Sport Plus mode too. Can't wait 'til the car's done 2000km so the taps can be opened properly. Hopefully I'll get another drive in it then :p

To be honest I've driven three M135i's, a mix of manual and auto but they've all had adaptive suspension so I have no idea what one without it is like.

I ended up buying a used M135i with it also, so again it seems normal to me. But in comfort, it certainly does feel like it soaks up the bumps well. The change to sport does tighten everything up nicely, even a passenger could feel the difference immediately (it wasn't the best road to begin with, admittedly).

Wait until you have a go with it loosened up, she sings and flies!

Without the adaptive suspension, the standard suspension feels exactly like adaptive does in Sport/Sport+...to my tastes a bit "jiggly" for every day use.

In which case, I'm glad mine has the adaptive suspension! I do like to turn it back into comfort and regain some composure.

My main trouble is traction, now I'm getting used to the power and how to use it, getting it down is a bit of a struggle in all but perfect road conditions. It's rather fun and twitchy, but similarly I'd like a little more poise. I'm assuming I'll need some after market dampers, perhaps Bilstein, to iron this issue out?

Yup, I find TC kicks in on mine regularly when I am not paying attention. Not on bone dry roads, but any country lane, or damp surface a bit of slip is to be expected.

Thats with 360+hp and big tyres. 320 and a lighter car with smaller tyres (possibly?) is always going to be lively under hard acceleration!

Yes but the real issue with a 135 is the open diff. A proper diff is going to improve your traction situation immeasurably more than a set of dampers.

One sentiment shared by most, and one of the major distinctions between the M135i and the “real” M-Powers, is that it lacks a mechanical limited slip differential. When pushing the M135i to its dynamic limits (for example when accelerating out of sharp bends) or in slippery conditions, the car is unable to apply all of its power to the ground. With traction control switched on the engine will reduce power to the rear wheels, and with it switched off, the rear wheels will simply spin the power away in true open diff fashion. These are the reasons why BMW still use a mechanical LSD on their M-Powers.

Not that I expect Birds to write anything less, of course they're going to try and sell it, but it does ring true...

IIRC BMW offer an M-Performance LSD for the M235i, not sure if it's available for the M135i, but if so it would preserve your warranty, and I doubt it's much if any more expensive than Birds.

Would always prefer to take that option to be honest, as I only bought it a month or so ago it's got a years warranty with the AUC scheme, (post that I'd get a monthly warranty).

Doesn't appear that it includes fitting, but the Birds one was ex VAT, so perhaps closer in price than you'd initially think...

All prices include VAT but exclude painting and fitment. Depending on specification of your BMW, installation times may vary and additional parts may be required. Detailed information is available from you local BMW Dealer.

Well the Birds one will be £2K fitted then (inc VAT) and the BMW one probably £2.7-3K fitted, so a fair bit more expensive but doesn't compromise your warranty.

They're asking £1,100 for the exhaust system which Gloucester BMW will supply and fit for £650, so I'd take those prices with a pinch of salt to be fair.

I was just speccing an M2 on the BMW website for a bit of fun and it seems to be limited to only black leather interior and carbon fibre trim, is this working properly? I didn't see an option for the M-Performance LSD either.

Yep, that's right. Those are the only options.

M-LSD is standard.
