BMW and M Power Owners

Anyone ever done the "exhaust valve delete" to use the american vernacular on their BM?

My 750i is very refined, and refuses to make much noise on low revs. Turns out its fitted with a vacuum operated exhaust blanking valve to close one of the back boxes on low load. I have removed the vacuum hoses from the solenoid, and stuck a small plastic bleed valve in between. When closed, it keeps the valve open in the second back box, and I am hoping to get a nicer throaty roar lower down as a result :)

Very easy to do, and hopefully when I drive it in the morning, it will make a difference to the noise! I don't want it to be too shouty, but hoped this might just liven it up a bit!

Will report back tomorrow :D

As above, but it can be a bit annoying in the cabriolet when doing about 40-50 mph. You shouldn't have a problem in a saloon I would say

They're asking £1,100 for the exhaust system which Gloucester BMW will supply and fit for £650, so I'd take those prices with a pinch of salt to be fair.

The Cotswold Group have always been good with prices when it comes to parts for my Mini, I second Wingman's comment.

Done by the previous owner on my 330Ci I really like it, makes a decent noise without being too loud.

Looks a bit too chav IMO.

Best option is just a chipped LED bulb for the front repeaters.

I have the Weislicht Spektrum ones from Canada:

I'm currently looking at getting an E91 LCI 330d/325d Touring, but struggling to find one in the spec I want (xenons, heated leather, Pro nav) with a manual box. What is the auto box like in these? Are they a good alternative or is it worth holding out for a manual?

Why would you want a manual diesel? That sounds awful. You'd definitely want an auto with an engine like that.

The reason you'd pick a manual is if you want a drivers tool - an involving drive where sporting ability is your priority. In which case you wouldn't be after a 325d.

Pretty much this. I had the 335d in E91 guise, and while it wasn't the best auto box I've driven (I must say thats the ZF 8 speed in the current generation cars), it was certainly good enough. Wouldn't worry at all about trying to get a manual. It might make it more difficult to sell on anyway.

Thanks, kind of what I was expecting to hear and what my head keeps telling me. I don't have much experience of auto boxes and never really considered them before (last car was an EP3 Type R, current weekend car a modified mk2 mx5). My good mate has a manual e90 330d that I've driven a fair bit and I've never thought "ohh this would be a lot better with an auto box", but again I've not driven an auto e90 so I've got nothing to compare it to. Looks like I need to do some test drives.

Auto box in my E92 330i was actually pretty good. It felt quite responsive in Sport mode using the paddles, and was the first auto box that I didnt get too frustrated with when pressing on.
Not sure if it's different to the diseasal box though?

I am a stickler for OEM myself tbh, dont think I'd do it to mine, just thought it was quite creative. :)

Looks great with LEDs all round.

Sequential rear indicators look naff, seen a few Audis with them lately and they're a bit harder to notice with the (eye-meltingly bright) rear brake lights on as well because you don't get that instant flash of light.

Why am I seeing brand new M2s on piston heads going for 65k?

No way on earth they'll go for that much when the basic price is just under 50k surely!?

Was working down in York yesterday and noticed that the BMW main dealers had an automatic 2011 325d E91 for sale so I called in and managed to get a test drive. I came away pleasantly surprised and jumped online last night to see what's available now an automatic is an option. Found a 2010 automatic 325d touring that ticks all the boxes regarding the spec I'm after, however I'm not sure on the colour combination. It's space grey, which I like, and has the oyster black interior, which I'm not too sure about. I'm still waiting for pictures of the actual car to see how they go together, does anyone in here have this combo? I'm thinking there may not be enough of a contrast between the grey paint and oyster leather? Keeping the leather clean and mark free is another slight concern.

Oyster/Black is a good colour combination because the dash top and lower section as well as all the carpets are black - providing a nice amount of contrast in the interior and making it easier to look after.
