BMW and M Power Owners

The current Z4 M Sport with the 19 inch wheels looks fantastic. Very much not boring.

The trouble with having everything black is it hides all the detailing - look at your car for example. You can clearly see the M Sport diffuser etc on your bodykit because of the nice contrast in the paint work and it looks good, but then from your signature picture its almost impossible to see the wheel design because it just blends into the blackness. The picture would be virtually the same if it had steels :p

Sup all, I just rebuilt my rear caliper (passenger side) as I was under the impression it was needing it after it almost seized on me (brake smoke after a normal drive is not normal folks!).

So, did the work tonight, however, stupidly I don't have my bleeding kit, which I admit only consists of a bottle and some tubing lol.

But, as I let a lot of air into the system, the brakes are VERY weak now, I'd not feel safe going further than a few miles to my local garage.

Anyone any idea on how much a garage would charge for the work? I can't imagine it being a lot as it only takes 5 mins per wheel, even less if they have a vacuum kit.

It'll be pretty cheap - even BMW only charge about 60 quid for a complete brake fluid change.

Aces, there is a garage around the corner from me, I'll dump it in before I go to work. Maybe even get it done there and there.

Tell me about it mate ref my wheels, I can't take a pic of it even in direct sunlight without it looking like it has no wheels :D I'll be changing the colour to something lighter when the time comes :)

Got a notice on my 5 Series (MY13) this morning about an unexpected Battery discharge, which must have been overnight.

Last night I loaded my car up with some camping gear, and along with other stuff, there is a 50kg Tent resting on the back of the seats (which are down) - Would some weird weight imbalance cause this? I can't think of any other reason.

My 550 does this if I leave the key fob within a certain distance of the car... Seems to cause a drain by checking the things... Although its never stopped the car from starting and disappears by the time I leave work if it happened in the morning... No other errors or issues in the ECU from when I've run diagnostic software.

I keep forgetting the newer models are far prettier though with the bigger wheels and such forth (someone posted a lovely pearl white one on here somewhere), but I like the fact that black one looks more modern for the mods applied to it and more agressive, in my personal opinion, but I have always had boyo cars so it's par for the course  Don't worry though, I am quite normal and not at all chav :D

Hopefully that's my white Z4 you're referring to :p

I'm obviously bias as an owner, but I think the Z4 looks great. Much better than a TT or an SLK to my eyes. But we're all different and all that. Although as fox says, it does need to have the M sport package as the standard front bumper isn't all that.

My monster comment was mostly in jest.

My brothers brand new 430 cab done exactly the same after being loaded up for a weekend away and sat-up overnight.

We unloaded it and turned the ignition over and it cleared it. We thought we may have pushed too much weight on the loom which passes through the boot under the roof housing once stowed?

Currently have an A4 S line and although it has a good sized boot, the rear shelf hinders what I can actually carry in it. So we have decided to look at the 3 series Touring range and I am wondering what are the preferred models, or more importantly, the ones to stay away from.

Looking at a diesel variant and from reading around, it seems the 320d is the better option over the 318d. Then we have SE, Sport and M Sport (obviously not just looking for the M badge here, unless it is one of the better kitted models out there)

Budget, approx £22500, which I have seen plenty around this mark.
Year, no older than a 2014 plate, yes I realize this eliminates a fair few models but it's what we have decided.
Also, again to some of your distaste's, we only go for lowish mileage models, I would say 15k or less.

So hit me with ideas and critique if you will (it is motors after all)

Cheers.

If you're struggling or space at the moment is there any reason you aren't considering the 5 touring? You'll find the same engines and little real difference in terms of performance/economy

Budget should just about get you into one with a reasonable selection of cars too - I'm not convinced you'll be able to be very picky in terms of 320d tourings given the very tight age/mileage criteria. I can't see many

£22k, must be a 14 plate with half the average annual mileage on it.

Good luck - you are going to end up in a worse car than you'd otherwise have got for no real reason.

Even if you binned the mileage the requirement you'd open up a lot of cars. It's not as if you need to buy a 100k miler either, plenty of good ones with 25k on them and 25k is nothing.

Less than 2 years old and under 15k buys only low-spec rubbish, whereas you could probably get this in budget if you relaxed your criteria:

But to be honest there still isn't much around at this money unless you get a crap spec one.

Actually you could probably get this as well, but it's really not very well specified and has the tiny little instrument screen and rubbish business nav, but hey, its low mileage..

The problem you are going to have is there won't be many cars that fit this criteria because used BMW's fall into two main groups:

a) Part exchanges etc from people buying new cars. Probably not many people doing this on a 2 year old car with under 15k on it
b) 'ex BMW Management' cars - this is where the bulk of nearly-new come from but they are generally 6-18 months old and therefore out of your budget.

The car you want is too new/low mileage for a) and your budget isn't really big enough for b) unless you buy something with poor spec.

Just a couple of photos and wee summary after a week of ownership (copied from the show us your motors thread)

Fairly epic, it's just so much fun and I really cannot understand how it got such bad reviews, it's a rocket ship with a lovely refined interior and predictable & confidence inspiring handling. The gear box is really quite awesome.

negatives, boot space when the roof is down is comical, the lack of bluetooth audio streaming, no android USB support and a comically dire 'online services' suite which seems to cost a fortune and offer nothing. Oh and the 'professional' stereo; I'd hate to meet the amateur one coz it's blooming awful!

averages, fuel economy seems fairly poor, I'd heard good things but it seems on par with my old 3.0si. But I keep finding excuses to go and drive it so that sums up my overall feelings.

mods already done - LUX H8 160 Angel Eyes, BMW Genuine Sports aerial (stubby), bosch aero wipers, iphone 4 mounting kit (and an iphone 4s for music ), latest 2016 maps (and stupidly expensive activation cost) and fully comp bmw warranty/£100 excess and emergency car whatsit.

fun fun fun

nah doubt it, the last one I had racked up 105k :p

another downside I've just discovered, no speed camera POI options, any ideas or does what I read on the internet ring true; i.e. not possible.
