BMW and M Power Owners

Yep, life moves, on priorities change, did I like the 640d yes of course, would I have one again, possibly, but for now the Seat does what I need it to and doesn't feel like a small mortgage sat on the drive doing next to nothing other than depreciating like a lead balloon.

The usual customer annoyance on super saloons; range.

That is probably a big part of it to be fair. Visiting the fuel court every 300 miles instead of 600 gets old quickly when all your doing is commuting to work.

Of course, the one day a week when you get to open it up, the M5 nails it. The 6 other days, with all the same toys, the 530d is realistically no worse, and keeps you away from the Shell station a bit longer.

Besides being faster, how is the M5 better than a normal nicely specced F10 when commuting, sitting in trafic or listening to an audiobook which is what 95% of normal drivng for me involves.

The M5 is great but flawed in my book.

Please tell me you do this in your R8 :D. Loud enough so passers by can hear, like most other R8s with their gangster tunes.

I used to get around 220 miles to a tank on my RS4. I ran that for over 100K miles so the "can't afford the fast BMW" doesn't really stack in my case. It was a pain in the backside when you had to keep stopping for fuel, especially when you factor in my average journey was probably 150 miles each way. I could range close to 600 miles on the 530D and 95% of the time in the circumstances I used it for, it was more comfortable, easier to relax in and frankly just as quick for what I needed and I suspect that would be the same for the M5, though to make mine better adaptive drive would be needed.

I guess if I was a millionaire then I would take the M5 because 'it's the best one init' but being logical about it a nice 640D Gran Coupe is probably the finest mile muncher you could ever want for relatively sensible money. But what do I know, I have a Polo GTi for mile munching and parking at stations and that's got a shocking ride.....but it is the fastest/top of the range/most aspirational model in the Polo range so I guess I win the internets?

Well my iPhone doesnt link to it so right now it's playing the same 6 CD's until I work around what I am going to do with its tech. :(

Big part of it for me. Nothing worse than getting yourself comfy, nice coffee next to you, favourite book on the stereo and settling in for a nice 200 mile drive early doors to then realise it's rainy, windy and the fuel light is on. :(

Then add to the fact that when you get where you're going, get back in the car in the evening the fuel light is on again :mad::mad::mad::mad:

Clearly most people dont want an M5 for mega commutes and tons of business use. Given my circumstances I would take an M5 over any diesel. (Not that its within my budget currently :))

And I think that is the issue for me. I have realised that an M5 isn't a special enough car (for me) to want as a weekend car and isn't a practical car to want for daily mileage, stations/airport parking and loading up for tip runs at the weekend. I actually think that applies to many people who buy them, but they aren't comfortable to come to terms with that, which I get but have now grown out of. My point wasn't the 530D is a better car, my point was the 530D is a better car (cheaper, more relaxed, less involvement, less fuel stops) for most peoples real use profiles.

Shame they didn't sell the M550d in the UK. Would've sold like hotcakes!
They're stupidly quick as well. Extremely subtle Q-car and omfg they don't half shift!

Where would be best to sell my Style 237 winter wheels? The 5 series goes back next week, so these will be for sale. So is ebay the best bet? Probably leave it a month or so mind, as we get closer to winter, to hopefully maximise their worth.

Also, any ideas what they would be worth? They are virtually unmarked, with Dunlop 3D RFT Winter tyres with about 5-6mm tread on them.

For those who don't know what they look like, here is a pic. I believe they are relatively rare, certainly haven't seen many of them about.
eBay would be my suggestion. Or Gumtree?

Aye. Turn your sidelights or headlights on. That'll do it!
Otherwise not sure why you'd want to?

They're currently set to auto, which is where they'll likely stay for the entire duration of ownership.

I want to because I find the dash pretty dim without it being lit.

I've said it before in the Audi thread but I will say it again. Buy/find a Tune2Air (WMA1000 I think its called).

This plugs into the iPod dock within the glovebox and lets you stream bluetooth music from your phone.

It is the best solution.

That needs an ipod dock in the glovebox which mine doesnt...

This doesn't work when the dash isn't illuminated...

I literally do not get your problem. So just to check you're not talking about the idrive system you're talking about the console itself?

That's sunlight shining direct on mine there and it's fully legible. Do you have any photos of yours or could you take one?

Both my cars are overdue a service (oil change on the X3 (2012) and brake fluid on the 330i (2011)), the notification was not very obvious so I only noticed them yesterday. Any idea what I am likely to have to pay for these at a BMW service centre?
