BMW and M Power Owners

Neither option comes up for either car (brake fluid or oil change), although the X3 does say next service is covered under a service pack - oil change or the front brake pads due in 2,200km?

Question: Has anyone ever had a factory build arrive early? Bought it a few weeks ago, and despite them saying it would enter build the weekend after purchase it's still 'pending build'.

Ideally I'd like it on time, but I really don't want it late either!

I literally do not get your problem. So just to check you're not talking about the idrive system you're talking about the console itself?

That's it - the console, not iDrive. I just find the 1 series console quite shaded and a little dim, plus the fact that I was used to the console on my Audi being permanently lit.

Both my cars are overdue a service (oil change on the X3 (2012) and brake fluid on the 330i (2011)), the notification was not very obvious so I only noticed them yesterday. Any idea what I am likely to have to pay for these at a BMW service centre?

£250ish for the oil service with microfilter (or free if it has service pack) and about £80 for the brake fluid.

Are these prices normal:

BMW X3 Oil service - £277+gst
BMW 330I Convertible Inspection 2 with Brake fluid service - £570+gst

Do I need Inspection 2 as part of the brake fluid service?

A 2011 3 series doesn't have an Inspection 2. The last 3 series with one of those on the service schedule was the E46 which went out of production 10 years ago.

The build will go through lots of stages identified by numbers like 5055 telling you where it is.

1100 Scheduled
1200 Scheduled for Production
5000 Confirmed for Production
5050 Chassis Number Allocated
5055 Confirmed by Production Control

5100 Bodyshop Start
5190 Bodyshop Complete

5200 Paintshop Start
5270 Paintshop Complete
5300 Pre-Assembly Start
5400 Assembly Start
5500 Assembly Complete

6000 Transfer to Distribution
8200 Released to Carrier
9000 Departed Plant
9615/35/45 In Storage
9610/20/30/40/50/60 In Transit
9800 Arrived Dealer

As soon as its past 1200 the order can't be changed (sometimes but they have to phone Germany) and after 5000 it seems to take about a month to get to you. It will go though those stages post 5000 within hours/days then sit waiting for a boat.
Best thing is to get the order number from your dealer then you can check progress using bmw's site, you go to build and then click "genius" and there you can converse with somebody who will tell you what production stage your car is at.

Barring parts shortages build will happen as forecast. If its quick its normally because the dealer had a slot and they have varied the order to your spec before it moved from 1200. Delivery is often earlier than the dealer first tells you as they add a bit in so as not to disappoint.

Do people really need XDrive? Other than maybe people in Scotland.........:)

Probably not, the extra traction in the wet helps though and can make the car feel much safer for people not used to RWD and decent power (enough to make the car a handful in the wet if you're hamfisted).

Saw this today...dont get why you'd stick a M4 badge on.

It's the mark of a true retard. Because anyone who doesn't know what an M4 is wouldn't be impressed, and anyone who does know what it is would know it wasn't a real one.

This is why I never understand it. Because this is completely true. The only people fooled will be those who are simply not interested anyway?

So now we end up with a picture of an awesome 65 plate 4 Series cab which ordinarily we'd be praising but because of that, the conversation is different..

Any of you guys help me out with a couple of unrelated questions please.

Q1,

I'm looking at getting E91 330d but unsure what kind of budget I'm going to need to get what I want. Ideal world I'd want an LCI model so the N57 engine, automatic gearbox, Pro nav, xenons and heated leather. Mileage sub 70k, well sub 60 if possible for the cheaper BMW warranty. Been looking for a little while and it looks like I'd need to spend 13k+ to tick these boxes. Does that sound about right, and if so is ploughing that kind of money into an E91 a wise choice? I presume running one of these with a BMW warranty is a must?

Q2,

My good mate has recently picked himself up an e86 3.0si Z4 coupe. I was out having a drive of it last night and found the brake pedal to be soft and brakes lacking any feel. It stops straight and true, but without any real conviction. I'm presuming this isn't normal for one of these? We're unsure what pads are currently on it, or when the fluid was last changed. He's picking up some new fluid and we're going to bleed the system first to see if that helps. The car also will see the odd trackday, is it wise to upgrade the pads? If so what's recommended. Oh, and what tyres would you recommend bearing in mind it's also a daily?

Cheers
