BMW and M Power Owners

I spent a fair bit of time in Kensington n Chelsea last year and it's the most F10 535i/d I've ever encountered (still not common). But they were usually in colours like Beige and in SE spec. I'd hazard a guess at the owners being fairly wealthy and not caring about M Sport spec or resale values.

Is there a bigger difference in cost when new compared to the E60 535d and the F10? Because there's plentiful E60 535d's but F10 is still a rare occurrence. It's been about 6 years since release I would have expected more?

Almost every F10 is a 520d. The 6 cylinder diesels are pretty rare. It's a real shame and makes it hard to find one to buy! Both of mine took months of searching.

I don't think I'm as up to date with BMWs as I thought I was - it was. 2010 model with twin exhausts to the left. I assume that's a 730d. I'll await correction from Fox lol. But every 740d I've ever encountered had looked extra beefy and had single exit exhaust on each side?

No that is right but they were like this through all of production :)

I've just done some googling and discovered the 740d has been available since the start. I've only noticed them in the last 3 years or so always assumed it was a new addition. Learn something new :p

If only we could all live with a 20d, and not the know/care about the difference!

In fairness that sounds a bit snobbish. I watched a Chris Harris video a while back about the 320d, being all the car you could ever want. Probably not far off.

It's absolutely true, if you're often stuck in traffic as well, a fast engine won't help you. Money permitting though it's nice to have a 3 litre where possible.

But if you're often stuck in traffic, it's nice to be stuck with the sound of a nice engine compared to one that's annoyingly tedious sounding surely. A crap sounding engine just takes a toll on the senses and results in frustration a lot of the time.

I agree though, most of the time it doesn't matter for the masses as they don't know any better, or care to know any better. The same reason people buy gold plated HDMI leads because the makers say the picture is better!!!11.

What about stop start? :p

Thankfully it doesn't bother me too much, I think the 4 pot BMW engine is decent, and certainly better than the rival 4 pot diesels. I know there are discounts now, but on the face of it, another 10 grand is a fair bit of money just to get a 3 litre.

And the engine noise isn't exactly loud in a 5 series anyway!

I was an extra £37 a month for my 530d instead of a 520d. It helped they threw in pro nav, and some of the spec I wanted in the 20d was standard in the 30d. But it was a LONG way away from £10k extra.

I believe I had the first F10 530D on these forums....I think. I am the leader, Fox has had 2 now, but he won't catch up, I was firstest

And 3 weeks in it was on a track....I know no one can beat that.

bad analogy because the masses are tricked into spending more on gold plated cables whereas most don't get the better car because they can't afford to.

Can't afford, and or don't want to afford to.

Why bother going for an awesome 6cyl when you can be seen in a BMW for less? :D

Regular punters don't notice the denoted symbols for engine size or fuel type, they see a BMW first and foremost and usually that's as far as it goes. Most of my colleagues gasped after I corrected their assumption that my 3 year old 1 series cost more than ~£12k... they simply couldn't understand why I spent ~£20k on that. They assumed I'd paid £12-£14k, which I could have done, if it were the 116d. They wouldn't have noticed a difference!

Really? He replaced his F10 530D with a F10 530D?

When was this?

Also who was that guy who posted his brand new F10 M5 in "show us your motors thread" a year or two back with the most understated post of the century "I bought a new car."

Cosimo probably. Posts every single new purchase in GD but forgets to mention an m5! Don't think he has it now though
