Probably a stupid question, but how can you tell apart a E92 330i and 325i if the car has been debadged. Is there a simple way of telling if you've never driven both cars?
Put the registrations into a website like www.totalcarcheck.co.uk
No, I don't think they do. Here in NZ, if its debadged you can tell by the registration as that has the year and model, but the UK doesn't contain that on the tax disc... If you can get the VIN from the engine bay then that will tell you everything about the car using the online checkers... otherwise V5 or license plate should give you enough details...
This is also good for checking spec, since running the plate for a BMW warranty quote, gives you the full VIN. You can then use the last 7 digits in one of the VIN decoder sites to get a full spec list.
I've seen this Z4 35iS on the Z4 forum for £18k which seems like a bit of a bargain: linky
Only problem is it's just done over 60k miles, although it currently has a BMW warranty and the owner claims the warranty direct debit can just be transferred to my name but I'm guessing it's not that simple from what Fox said at the top of this page?

From chatting with the owner he is going to get a BMW health check done on it for what it's worth.

Looks great for s car that's done 59,500 miles, how convenient that you can purchase the warranty at the lower rate
If the car hasn't been near a dealer since March and it's a private sale who is to say that it's gone over 60k?
Not sure if I'd want to do that with a car that they could quite easily see has been covering lots of miles in the last couple of years and with the online ad being easy to find etc. You could almost guarantee something would happen about 2 months into ownership too
Would a driveline or named compinent warranty give a sufficient level of cover for a 35i (can't remember if injectors are covered) ?

He's taking the car to a BMW dealer to do a health check which causes problems.
So, while my 2009 E60 550i is in fine shape, I'm constantly annoyed by the CCC interface. I know I can replace the CCC with a CIC/NBT unit and CIC can be installed here in NZ including codings for NZ for $3500NZD, but I was wondering bar this route are there any replacement systems that can be retrofitted?
I've seen the Dynavin and it looked ok until I realised that the Sat nav system was touch only and not through the idrive command knob.
Any others? getting a newer car is out of the question at the moment as 2010 F10s for NZ new cost a fortune here and imported jap new require patching to make them work here (or anywhere outside of Japan) and I'd be in the same position now with not being able to update the cars systems without repatching afterwards.
