BMW and M Power Owners

That looks nice DRZ

1 week until I pick up mine :( these last 2 weeks have dragged. This time next week I'll have picked up the keys to my first home and my new car, it's going to feel like Christmas (and will have to be Christmas too as my wallet is officially shut for business for a while :p)

I guess I should put up a post about my new addition really. Not collected it yet so the pics are the dealer pics:

As you can see, it is a 2014 535d M Sport. 18k miles on the clock.

Spec is pretty reasonable, M Sport Plus pack (Harmon Kardon, Wheels, SPG etc), Pro Nav (RTTI etc), Full Black Panel. I believe it is identical in every way to [TW]Fox's car, apart from his is a pathetic 530d :p :D

So that's a 35i and a 35d in the stable. Not sure how long I'll hold onto the Z4 now... I wonder if selling it in the spring will get me more money than I'll lose in depreciation over the winter.

How much do you want for the Z4? ;)

I know there's a few of you on here with 530D M Sports - can I ask how you find the (non VDC) suspension . A lot of reviews say that you really need the VDC as the passive M Sport setup is too hard at lower speeds. I'm asking as a dealer is offering an apparently good deal on a new stock one (presumably as they shift them before the new model comes out).

I think it's ideal. I have no idea why the press is so obsessed with VDC. On its own j think VDC is a poor choice and the only adaptive setup to have is the full dynamic drive.

However I am very happy with my passive M Sport setup, it is a marked improvement over my SE with very little ride penalty.

How good is a good deal? For a while now you've been able to order a brand new 530d from 34k.

I noticed a bad smell when I was using my heated seats and then realised I was being cooked from behind!
The seat heater had malfunctioned and made the leather go a bit wierd, so I did some digging and found a car salvager selling one for £80. Was in good nick, so bought it. Arrived today, going to try and get it fitted this weekend.

BMW were not that interested in helping, although it seems like quite a safety risk!

If it was a risk of injuring you or causing a fire I would have thought they'd be VERY interested?!

My sister's MINI caught fire after an electrical fault and they were all over it like a rash and it was at least 5 years old at the time! They replaced everything damaged completely at their expense.

I spoke to them and they just said take it to a dealer and they will quote for a replacement.
It cooked the leather in 30 seconds. Had I left it on, I am certain it would cause a fire. Seemed like a big safety risk. Even on a 10 year old car!
I assumed they might at least be interested in advising me to remove the fuse or perhaps some sort of assessment of the fault

It is not a great set up, the full active set up is much better but finding one with it as a challenge as it was an expensive option. I don't know if they have improved the ride on later models, but for me I think it was a weakness of the M Sport 530D I had, especially when pushing on or on bad roads. When pushing on the set up could cause the back end to lose traction and frankly it was too stiff, they focused on body control in smooth corners, not body control of rough roads of which we have more in the UK. It's acceptable, but for me I always felt BMW didn't do a great job. A great road car has great damping and the reason that magazines reviewed is badly to the active car is the active car fixed that significantly and removed the jarring you get on bad surface, bumps and pot holes.

I'm not sure what else you expected them to say, nobody can guess over the phone so take it to a dealer sounds reasonable.

It's a 10 year old car you didn't buy from them and dont service with them so not sure why you even called them?

I called them as I was in the car and the number was on the i-drive and wanted to check if perhaps it was a known safety bulletin, and also checked if my car was due any other notices.

At the time I thought nothing of it, but I then found its a bit if a known issue that's caused a few fires. I did actually find some people getting half costs refunded by BMW in the US on cars of about 10 years old.

What is there to like about the rest of it? Very poor spec car. That two line monochrome radio display looks straight out of 2001.

What would you consider to be a good E92 spec in the £10-£12k range?

I would ideally want to get something that looks like this:

But its a fair bit more and not sure what the running/maintenance costs of a 335i would be over a 330i. Do you think the 335i above is worth the extra 2k over the 330i above?

I thought it was time that I shared my purchase, not a recent one, February this year, but been loving it ever since!

Went from a Ford Focus to this and its miles apart. Done the same mileage in this in 9 months as I did in the Focus in 2 years.

Shame about the photo, clearly I'm not a very good photographer.

Pretty certain my mate now owns that and it's the one I drove last night. But yes its ABSOLUTELY worth the extra 2k over that other one.

I'm glad you said that, i'll be ordering mines over the next week and was becoming concerned about VCD or the need for it on M sport models largely, as you said because of the press.

I've read that the car doesn't sit as low with VCD either? Not that it's a make or break aspect.

The M sport setup ive driven previously was brilliant in my mind, no need for additional damper control but theres always that niggle.
