BMW and M Power Owners

If I had £50k to spend on a diesel BMW that was big and nice I'd order a brand new G30 530d M Sport for less money - its an all-new car whereas the 6 Series is based on the F10 5 Series.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the 6 Series, it is a wonderful car, but it makes no sense to spend this sort of money on one now I don't think.

Alternatively, if you really like the 6 £35k buys a stunner.

Normal coupe. It also has surround view and pano roof but no comfort seats.

Well as long as your aware and your happy knowing you will get a max of 30k back for it in 2 years than they are really nice looking cars. If it was me I would be looking at 2 years old.

I like the GC more but thats just down to taste and individual requirements

Which is fine if you are happy to wait almost a year for the car.

Almost a year? Orders are being taken now and production is underway for February/March delivery. Full spec and pricing info is now on tje BMW uk website.

Why are you pretending thats a year?!

If ordered a new Golf estate today when would that arrive...

I looked on the BMW UK site and you can't configure the new 5 Series yet - just register interest.
Sure the price list and spec is available to view as a PDF but can you actually go into a dealership, spec one up and order it?

I spent a good few weeks looking over 640d's (GC's mostly though) but ended up buying an F15 X5. All effectively based on the F10 anyway, but I found the rear space of the 6 just not as good as I had thought it would be. The dash though - so much want :)

DEFINITELY do not spend 50k on one, they are great cars with decent specs but as you've just posted 30k ish gets you the same thing effectively.

Coding - anyone use the Carly app for anything? Is there anything 'better' than that?

I used it today to code some (what I think rather useful) things into the F15 - the LED lights under the door handles for example come on when reversing, that's hugely useful at night to see kerbs etc, and now I'm surprised that's not standard.

Door handle lights in reverse seem cool. Wonder if the F10 can do that.

I can't imagine why not - I know your not really into 'modding' but coding features into the cars that seem like they should be standard (or at least options) is kinda neat.

Other things I did -

DRL's now come on 'softly' when unlocking the car, as in they fade on and off rather than just fully on straight away, same with interior LEDs.

Welcome lights stay on a lot longer once unlocked.

Removed the 'cold chime' alert when it gets to 3 degrees. This is properly annoying in Scotland.

Removed the welcome lights only come on when the rain sensor detects it's dark mode, so they just come on when you unlock the car, regardless of darkness or not.

What MPG do you think would be achievable? an what size/res is the nav do you know?

How long is a peice of string? If you spend all your time hooning around the city in Sport mode then it'll do 20-25mpg. If every trip you make is up and down the Motorway in eco-pro mode at a steady 70mph it'll do 50mpg.

I've averaged about 40 and the 640d is about the same.

The nav is a 10.2" widescreen.
