No. Why the obsession with black? Black wheels and a black grille will make it look terrible.

Edit not sure if trolling.

;)

Thoughts?

Chavtastic.

Perfect, that’s the exact vibe I’m going for

Of course, I’m not actually going to do a single thing to it, other than a complete detail, machine polish and ceramic coat.

Oh and sort the sound system out!

I posted earlier in this thread about ordering a new car and it not arriving with the correct specification.

Quick re-cap;
Last Christmas I ordered a new 530d.
Unbeknown to me, in Jan BMW sent out a notification that they were no longer going to fit Adaptive Suspension to any 5 series cars - What the proviso was for orders already in the system remains a mystery and if I had been informed at the time I would have cancelled my order.
Car was built in Feb and I collected it beginning of March - no one said anything about the car not having the adaptive suspension and it was left to me, whilst driving home, to realise it was missing.
Getting BMW to build another one was out of the question because by this time they had stopped making the 530d.
My supplying dealer messed me around for 3 weeks, falsely raising my hopes of swapping me into one of the 530d's of a similar spec. that were still unsold and physically available in the UK - basically neither the dealer, or BMW UK, would accept responsibility, or liability, for the cockup.
The only option left on the table was to keep the car and accept comensation of £3700, which was their best offer. I really liked the car but just couldn't live with the way it bounced and wallowed over the bumps (to make matters worse the dealer had given me the opportuniny to compare, back to back, a new 530d with adaptive suspension, but missing other essential items, and my car. To me the difference was night and day and I recommend to anyone buying one of these cars to get one with adaptive).
Then, out of the blue, the dealer offered to take my car back and refund me in full. I need a car for my job and with the 530d being my ideal car, I did a quick search on the BMW AUC to see if anything suitable was available.
I found a 6 month old 6500miles car in a higher spec than mine, with the essential adaptive suspension, that was still available, and a deal was done over the phone, a deposit placed and I collected it yesterday.

So I've gone from this Skyscaper Grey 530d;

To this Alvite Grey 530d;

Alvite Grey is an interesting colour - there's a lot going on and depending on the light it goes from bronze, gold, pink to purple as you walk around the car.
The engine in this car feels much stronger, with much more urge than my previous one and the gearbox is much more respsonsive in kickdown - the performance feels somewhere in the middle between a 530d and a 335d (which I test-drove a while back).
This car has also got electric steering column adjust and more electric seat adjustment, which makes me wonder if BMW were just banging out the last few cars with whatever parts they still had available.
History of this car is that it was supplied to one of the dealer technicians (they get offered them really cheap and drive them for 3-6 months before they change for something else) and if has been on sale since Jan 2023, which I find surprising as the good ones seem to sell straight away. Also the dealer was 200miles away and when I collected the car yesterday, they said if is becoming common policy with most BMW dealers to stop doing distance sales, for whatever reason.

Anyway, I'm really happy with this one and pleased with the way things have turned out.

Sounds very similar to Dravit grey. I get the same on my M340 when the sun hits it, changes to all sorts of hues, the gold fleck through it is very noticeable from some angles. But there's also greens, reds and purples in there too.

Enjoy your new 5 series, I recall reading your initial post about the adaptive suspension being missing and was wondering how it had all panned out for you. Looks like you have had a decent result after all your hassles!! :cool:

This is an awesome result. I know it must be tricky knowing you’ll have paid similar for a used car, but once you get over the whole “it’s a new car” thing, it makes so much more sense.

The adaptive suspension is amazing in how much it can improve the car.

My dad is looking at an i4, and like the 5 series, you cannot get it with adaptive suspension at the moment. The press car has it, though, and it’s excellent.

It would personally deter me from getting the car altogether at the moment.

nice result , so the dealers had the pick of the best specs they built - was it owned by the dealership then ?
(neighbours works for mercedes and they seem to have diesel? cars for 6 months or so ... just got a diesel convertible for spring, merc 22|00d do sound a bit rough though, I guess their ev's aren't on menu)

Thanks, I will and intend to keep it for a few years.

Yes it was a bitter pill to swallow, having to pay similar for a used car as new - its because the BMW Finance apr is double for used over new. The Adaptive Suspension definitely makes the car imo.

and ceramic coat.
1. Why on earth are you giving the car a coat? It doesn't need to be kept warm or dry.
2. A ceramic coat will be really heavy and quite expensive.

Looks nice as it is.

Looks almost Dravit grey style with the colour changing in different lights. Glad you got a full refund and could move onto a better car!

Do you have pictures that are not 56k safe, as these seems to be around 20x20 resolution :p

Nice!
How was the AUC negotiation? I had to walk away just to get £1k off list back last July :(
Only managed £500 off but the car was very competitively priced anyway for the spec. I wasn’t really in a strong negotiating position, as I needed a car quick and this was the only one that fitted the bill.
They were almost giving them away when I ordered the new one last Christmas. Think I got 13% discount off list plus a deposit contribution.

I don’t know why the pics have come out so badly, I’ll see if I can upload some higher res ones.

The whole used vs new thing is mad, I wouldn’t mind an F90 but used prices and APR nearly make new ones competitive (not sure they are still taking orders now). No doubt there will be some bargains to be had when dealers want rid of stock like what happened with the G80 at the end of last year.

My local BMW dealer has a used iX in the exact same spec as I've ordered so went to check it out, as I hadn't seen one IRL.
In the metal the iX looks amazing! I was going to change my order colour to 'Storm Bay' but the standard white looks great - roll on November !
