Bought a phone off eBay: would you say this is in "excellent condition"?

My Galaxy s2 didnt look that bad after 4 years of use....

Those phones look like he's attacked them with an angle grinder :p

Seriously I don't know how people manage it. Is it just lack of effort and inability to look after things they own?

Suspect it's the case that in this throw-away society we all live in, most people don't consider looking after their own possessions to be a worthwhile thing to do.

That Looks like it in excellent condition for a second hand mobile phone...

Pictures of some my older mobile phones after 6 months to 12months of use

Seriously, wtf? They are in an appalling condition - do you take no pride in your equipment? What do you use to swipe the screens, sandpaper?:confused:

Here's my old HTC Desire after 5 years of daily use:

Do you work on a farm or something? I've had my Note 1 in every day use for around 4 years and it still looks almost new :S don't even use a protective case.

I cannot understand how it is possible to destroy a phone that badly. I didn't think I took care of my phones particularly well, but the worst they have after 3/4 years are a couple of scratches and a chip on the corner!

Apart from the time, effort, and tiny little tools required.

I wouldn't be happy with that "solution" at all. If I bought a phone described as being in excellent condition, I wouldn't be interested in changing a screen over myself because it wasn't as described.

I might entertain the idea of a £50 refund - £20 for the screen and £30 for the inconvenience, otherwise I'd want a complete refund and I'd be sending it back!

Exactly, tell him you want a full refund or to sweeten the deal.

Seller has replied again:

I have reviewed the listing and I don't agree that I mis-represented the item. I said it was in 'excellent condition' and I would say it is. If you want to return it then it will be at your cost as so far it has cost me PayPal fees and postage for an item you don't want, even tho my listing also states 'No Returns'. Let me know.

I have responded as follows:

The listing stating "no returns" is irrelevant in this case as you have sold an item, that has been falsely described. In this case, the eBay Money Back Guarantee applies. I am not prepared to pay the return postage fees as eBay clearly states that when an item is not as described, the seller pays the return fees. "If the item was not as described, the seller is responsible for paying return postage costs." [from http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/buy/return-item.html#process] I will be referring this case to eBay for further investigation. If you are able to escalate it straight away that would be appreciated. If you are unable to do so, then I will ask eBay to step in on the 12th March.
