Bought an old BMW M3, filled with regret...

Care to elaborate?

I don't think I really need to elaborate? If you knew anything about SMGII you would understand.

Do you like manual windows too?

loltim

Hats off for the worst comparison I've seen on these forums in weeks. If my electric windows could throw a £3000 bill at me at the drop of a hat, regularly could leave me stranded in the middle of nowhere with no warning, when my car wouldn't start would often be the reason why and would need to be towed and were very clunky then yes, I will take the manual windows thanks.

It wasn't really aimed at the chav market when new!

Yeah, because the M3 CSL was aimed at the chav market wasn't it?

It's nothing to do with being chavvy or whatever you're going on about. I imagine it was based on a cost issue and not wanting to step on the toes of the CSL even a little bit. Afterall, that sound is iconic CSL.

To us mere mortals who couldn't afford a CSL, we obviously would have been happy to have a CSL lite sound as standard, which is where the Eventuri comes in.

It's a really good product - perhaps a tad expensive, but it certainly does what it says on the tin. It's very well constructed, makes the S54 sound truly electric and is bolt on/bolt off.

On a trackday maybe. Not day to day?

The SMG is actually far more suited to a trackday.

Based on today, where all E46 M3's are between 10-16 years old, a clunky gearbox which is notoriously temperamental and that can render your car completely useless with no warning makes no sense. Had SMGII been brilliant like a modern day DCT gearbox, then yes, at least there is an argument for having it. But it isn't. Nowhere near. So it begs the question - why risk it?

SMG pumps these days are over £2800 just for the part. BMW are the only people that make this part and can source it. The best bit is that until recently there was something like a worldwide 6month backlog for SMG pumps, which meant that if your pump went during this time, you had over £3000 in your pocket to fix it, you were still going to be stuck for months with a car that couldn't move.

True with the stock gear knob which is long and lightweight. Change it to the Sport short weighted one that comes standard on non M3 Sport E46s and it feels much better. It's the first thing I changed.
