BRINK

Well the only people I trust for faithful reviews now are people on this forum.

Pro reviewers get paid for reviews.

Metacritic gets trolled by kids.

Various other sites where people can voice their opinions get trolled by people who have a vendetta against the devs/publisher/platform/competition etc.

From now on, all my purchases are going to be based soley on what the ocuk community says - so I'll be waiting til some of you guys have this game and give it a thumbs up/down before I make my decision.

Personally I'd just watch a stream of the game and make my decision based on that. From the 1 posted earlier in this thread it looks a lot faster paced than even I first thought (I assume a light body type), and the shooting and movement looks great compared to the amount of bitching which has been going on.

So they blocked Jersey from being able to buy from D2D (bought from them before), you can buy the game from Jersey sites, so I went with steam.

But some euro friend bought from D2D when there was just one option to buy, now they've redacted those version, added a UK/DE/EU one and put him on the EU one with none of them on the language he speaks (no english or danish).... how can distributors get away with such shoddy service and not allow refunds? Now they've added an english download which says it's a north american download, hopefully it's just the english version. Staying away from D2D from now on.

So what's the latest on D2D, all the installer does is ask for a key - where do I get it?

Haven't released them yet due to a mess up with the keys, they couldn't be activated properly, so I think they just retracted all the keys and are reissuing them at some point. Not heard when they are giving new ones though.

Cheers, says 13th on site so will wait it out.

I got my D2D key the other day, I registered it on Steam fine. I've was even able to pre-load.

I watched the live stream for about 90 minutes, but I just can't tell how in depth the objective system is (which is supposedly the crux of the game) because he wasn't bothering with objectives at all - just playing it like a TDM basically. I can't tell how lasting the game is either and whether it's likely to die out after a couple weeks.

Got a copy from work as there was no embargo. After messing with a VPN for a while i've managed to get it unlocked and playing offline. :)

http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=jadhqr&s=7 - just incase people want to be sure.

Couldn't enable the bonus kit as the codes don't work for the USA region, will have to wait for Friday to check them out.

After playing for about 30mins i really like it, no doubt it will play very differently once i actually play with/against real people lol. The customization is amazing and i spent quite a while looking at all the different gear i could unlock.
You definitely need to control burst fire, my main weapon had huge amount of recoil until i controlled my fire rate. That happens even if i fire from the hip or down the sights.
Going to go have another go to get used to the parkour, takes a while to get used to that.

If anyone wants to know anything in particular or see screens (never tried streaming so not sure on that) i'll be back soon. :)

Machinima are running a live stream now with a good interview with the creative director of Brink. Pretty good so far :) He's been chatting about review scores, saying they were tracking them and stuff. He said oddly all of the European reviews were around 8, but the American reviews were lower (some much lower) and he thinks it's because the "day 1" patch that was meant to be come out didn't, so they were playing basically a beta game. Not sure if that's just an excuse or not though, but the interview is interesting.

[Edit]: Interview finished, rest of it was just going over stuff that's in the game, how they wanted to stay away from kill-death ratios due to it being team orientated and not an epeen contest, and also future development after launch.

•Groundbreaking Kinesthetics — BRINK uses the familiar shooter controls that you’re used to, without frustrating, artificial constraints and takes advantage of a new feature: the SMART button. When you press the SMART button, the game dynamically evaluates where you’re trying to get to, and makes it happen. No need to perfectly time a jump or vault, the game knows what you want to do.
Something is awesome! :p:p:p

But they are obviously going to do that aren't they?

They're hardly gonna link to a review that thinks their game is **** or average are they? Most people with an ounce of brains will consider all reviews not just the tinted reviews that the game dev links too.

First impressions:

Fun game, plays pretty well, bots are dumb (but the game isn't about bots), some guns feel much better than others, medium body type is a bit sluggish (more CS than Quake), limited but nice customisation options (no doubt more will be added), visually very pretty, modified Q4 engine makes it feel quite familiar, no accuracy bonus for ironsights/crouching (that I noticed in a quick play through), free running works rather well but map knowledge required and the whole game has a nice level of polish (but will need patching).
