**British Armed Forces Discussion Thread**

Well its my big day tomorrow my 2 days doing my ADSC down Pirbright. Feeling a little nervous but im just ready to get on a do it now. Wish me luck and ill post when i get back and let you all know if i passed or failed.

Good luck dude, should be easy enough, just make sure you put 100% effort into everything, and don't be cocky or arrogant or anything and you'll be fine.

I'm stuck doing a pre selection fitness plan specifically for me, got to do it, and send off a record to the ADSC before I'll be going for selection again, driving me insane heh.

Picking my tickets up tomorrow and going for my last practice run before having a few days of rest in time for my ADSC starting the 21st!

Still a bit weary for my run time but I'm probably overestimating it, I haven't done a proper timed and accurately measured run to see where I'm at but I've had a fair bit of practice.

Just for info - you have to be 23 or less to apply to the RAF to become a pilot stright from civvy-street, however if you're already in the RAF (in another trade) then the age limit goes up considerably to around 28. It's a great deal easier to rebranch than many people think.

Anyone know the RAF stand with people who had laser eye surgery (short sightedness)? I'm not looknig to be a pilot but I will find army a lot easier without glasses, I tried contacting RAF directly but I just got standard *sigh requirements vary with roles* email after 2 weeks.

What roles in particular are you interested in? I can ask the question at work if you want? I know plenty of people already in the raf who've had laser eye surgery, but no one who's had it before joining up.

6 days.

:\

Interesting that. Say a Steward wanted to go for pilot at 25, would they have the same chance as someone in a more relevant/techy trade?
Dunno about that as it depends upon whether a persons done the aptitude tests or cranditz officer 'material'. I can only say it's more straightforward if you're already an officer. I know a couple of people in their late twenties who've branched across to become helo pilots - one an air trafficker like me and another who was an engineering officer.

Actually, I know another guy (mid twenties) who went from newly endorsed Sgt Controller (he was one of my students!) and is now going through Cranwell in order to become a heavies pilot.

My job hunting wasn't doing so well so I thought what the hell and just call the RAF and see what kinda stuff might be available for me and they called back saying I'd be suited for an Officer role! The guy on the other end was really keen on grabbing my DOB which had alarm bells going (I'm quite paranoid lol) but then he said he wanted to send me an info pack and then set a date for an informal interview. So I was like whoa pump the brakes just seeing what would be available haha... didn't think it would move that fast.

I'm just really worried about the fitness. I'm not what you'd call "fit" although over the summer since I had more free time I'm in better shape than I was... definately determined to get fit though.

That would be great. Was thinking of something on the lines of engineer officer. Still out of interest would it be possible to join aircrew roles such as weapons system officer (I know there's no chance in hell you'll be a pilot with laser eye surgery). Bit of a concern now is the mystery pain in my left knee that just appeared all of a sudden, had an x-ray and they didn't find anything. Had my MRI scan in early September just waiting for them to get back to me.
