**British Armed Forces Discussion Thread**

Any idea if the ammount of people joining will die down in the future, or will it just become more and more selective as the time goes on?

Am sure once they get to a certain number they can't let anymore in?

They said today that most RAF roles aren't recruiting til they see numbers that are published in September.

dunno mate, if you ask me, i reckon its at its peak, the amount of ADSC candidates i saw coming through pirbright was insane, unless things take a turn for the worse that is.
i reckon you got just as much chance of getting through it as you did before, just have to be willing to put up with the longer waiting periods, as they process through the higher volume of people.
but then i'm no expert on these things.

It depends on the trade, many technical trades are full or being out sourced to civilian contracts ( :( ) but the regiment will always be looking for recruits and I think Aircrew is in demand (£36k aint too shabby)

I'm seriously considering joining the RAF as an officer in logistics or engineering as I'm not sure if I am cut out to be a solicitor. I have heard they are pretty full however I will be venturing into the AFCO just to clarify this.

Dad was in the RAF for 22 years, so was my grandad and uncle so I understand the lifestyle and commitment needed, perhaps it's in my blood :p

When you say you're not cut out to be a solicitor do you mean to say you think a job as a solicitor is more difficult than a forces officer?

Well just FYI I have passed my selection and passed everything just waiting to start my training in march next year to join the REME as an armourer in the army.

Can't wait, march can't come around quick enough.

Well done, best of luck :)

not in the slightest!

Would you say being a forces officer is more difficult than being a solicitor?

Have you done both, I doubt it.

My comment had nothing to do about which is the tougher.

I was only asking to clarify your comment :\

...Best of luck with your appplication.

No worries.

I have not applied as of yet its just under consideration/research it is after all a big commitment and of course highly competitive to become an officer.
I am under no illusions, I did live on RAF bases for 18 years of my life and understand a small amount of what is required and this I hope will help.

everyone is always recruiting, dont be under any illusions, shine bright enough and you'll be in sooner rather than later.

You get graded through officer selection, you can pass but this doesnt mean you're getting a date, and someone who applies weeks after you may get a date sooner.

Im not too sure what the requirements are for RAF officer but theres a lot of people who seem to think they deserve a commision, and frankly dont come close.

stupid asthma meant I could never join any of the forces, really wanted to be an officer in the raf, or maybe even the navy but will never do that now

harsh, I shouldnt have gotten in as iv ruined my hips, they dont know how i got through training - im on painkillers most days for wandering about and ill be getting replacements or resurfacing.
Good stuff.

Passed selection 2 weeks ago and no word for a starting date yet.

I could be waiting til after April... it's going to drag so much.

How long did anyone here wait from selection to getting a date through?

i start recrut training CTC lympstone on monday, so close now and i haven't prepared at all :D / big fail on my part. Hope i can hack it.

had to wait 3-4 months from selection to start think its closer to 4-5 months now though very crazy considerign takes a while get selection date aswell.

brother is trying to retrade at the moment out of Military Police and is finding it very hard to find anyone willing to take him, i think they are close to full and only taking on minimum recruits

They are, it's harder to get in and especially if you going for actual trades.

If I get in April it will be 10month from start to finish and April is possibly the earliest for me.

I just really want a confirmed date so i can sort my life out :)
