A kid can leave school at 16, join the RAF and be on 28k a year when their 20.
Could*
They've ditched AIP's and they're ditching the higher pay band/incremental pay rises.

How much did it used to cost to get out?
Military careers and opinions are dictated massively by the luck of your postings. Your life is literally in the hands of manning. Two people could join up together and within a couple of years have massively contrasting opinions on the military.
I've personally had a decent run and I enjoy it. I plan to move soon and hopefully it's a nice life too.
Upcoming budget changes and new employment model are shaking things up but financially I'm finding the raf pays me well for what is effectively the easiest job I've ever had since leaving school 15 Year ago.
Soon to be a STAB lol.

What's wrong with you man? Make a clean break and find something better to do with your weekends and evenings. Besides, they'll have you deployed again before you know it. **** that, not for this callsign

Have to agree with this too. I was quite fortunate and ended up in a really good posting for the past few years, but also knew it was time to move on when I decided to leave. I picked up my Cpl after around 3 1/2 years and managed to get a posting that I really like, working doing something I loved, but you can sometimes just see things starting to change around you for the worse and at that point it's time to make the decision to go.
I prefer to move on on a high rather than being completely disillusioned, like pretty much everyone I joined with who've left already, only a few of my intake left, and they're either unhappy and looking to get out, or are unhappy and sticking with it and will be lifers.
Well, in all honesty any posting can be good. It's just down to you to make it good!
I hate when people don't want to go to places X Y or Z. Though when you challenge them on it, they don't give a valid answer. It's always on the lines of.." SAC Bloggs said that it's rubbish!"
Or people that constantly **** off their place of work, not only is it unprofessional.. Though it lowers morale for everyone. I find that a lot of people don't help themselves in the millitary. As long as you can make the good days out number the bad, you're on for a winner!
I'm not saying my 7 years has been perfect (7 years exactly today- GET SOME TIME IN) though it's been a bloody good ride this far, and long may it continue.
Looking to occupy myself with some sort of distance learning course for when i go to the Falklands. I have no idea what i want to do though!
Good luck doing distance learning with your 30minutes of internet a week.
Regarding people ****ging the raf off, our place is full of people who love a good rant but they don't have the balls to PVR. So ya can kinda just ignore them.
Must say though, the PVR rate at the minute, particularly for Lossie is pretty huge.
Was speaking to a friend the other day, apparently Odiham already has a PVR rate of 26%.

I leave soon after what will be nearly 19 years. Despite a certain trepidation I can't wait as the lifestyle has become almost unbearable.
I think half the issue is these days is that there is not a great deal happening in terms of workload (compared to the last 15 years) but the same level of workrate is expected after Iraq/Afghanistan and it just isn't feasible
What trade are you? The problem for myself and most of the people I know is that they are undermanned and overworked.
