British Grand Prix 2010, Silverstone Circuit - Race 10/19

Is Webber in talks with the team about 2011 ? GPupdate are reporting he is

But where else would he go?

Renault?

Great race from Webber today - stormed off and you feel he still had some in reserve - that RB6 really is an awesome car.

Hamilton did very well to keep Mark honest, despite not having as good a car - and great error free drives from Rosberg, Button and Barrichello to make the most of their cars.

Dissapointed by Vettel and Alonso though, who seemed very clumsy in forcing their way through the field.

I know for a fact that Yamamoto was outside that limit at this race (he was into the 108% range). Chandok might have just about made it, but it must have been tight if he did.

It's not as simple as that.

In Q1 Vettel did 90.841 sec making the 107% 97.200 sec. Yamamoto did 96.968 so inside.

Now you could use Vettel's Q3 time of 89.615, which brings the 107% down to 95.888 sec which would exclude Yamamoto but it would be totally wrong to do that as it's comparing apples to oranges. Every single driver posted a significantly better time in Q3 than they did in Q1 - it's only reasonable to expect Yamamoto would have too - more laps, more rubber down, maybe better temperature/wind contritions etc...

We can't know for a fact Yamamoto would have been outside 107%. He would have needed to find an extra 1.080 sec from his Q1 time, unlikely yes, but not impossible.

It'll be interesting to see what Webber does, yes RB have the best car (and it's a good bet they'll be there or thereabouts for the next few seasons as well), but is that really worth it when the team so blatantly favours the other driver and wants him to win rather than Webber?

Renault would be a good bet, both for Webber and Renault imo, obviously not a championship winning car, but at least he should have equal footing with Kubica and they do seem to be developing the car quite well...

Next years rules are Q1 times.

The slow teams... Jesus, someone get rid of all of them now please. I'd rather they weren't there getting in the way. Can't remember what stage of the race it was, possibly just after safety car but there was a Lotus getting in the way of pretty much everyone.
I'm all for having more teams in F1, I'd rather they were remotely on the pace though. I'm sure Minardi even put up better fights than this. :(

How are new teams meant to come in if they're immediately meant to be on the pace?

The last few years we've been very lucky with how close the grid has been, but thats not normal at all. There used to be at times 15seconds between 1st and 26th.

I'm not entirely sure how they are going to run the 107% rule next year with the Q1, Q2 and Q3 sessions.

Get rid of the blue flags and let the faster cars find a way past instead - much more entertaining. ;)

Just a shame that the safety car had to ease vettels suffering, horner called it a great comeback drive but without the SC he would be an age down the pack. Surprised force india arent in the stewards office asking how much body work can be knocked off you car by the car barging past before it counts as ramming.

Another entertaining race! I love the fact RB have two drivers fighting, its not like Ferrari with the best car where we had a rear gunner.. neither of them are willing to take that spot.

Good drives from Hamilton and Webber. Great drive from Button. Disappointingly harsh decision on Alonso imo.. forced off the track on the inside of the next corner and then punished. Vettel fell foul of the bad finger luck!

The Championship is well and truly amazing!

Oh, and disappointed I wasnt there today too, but I have some red knees from the qualifying so it was probably for the best.

BTW congratulations to Vettel on learning by his mistakes, today Schumacher held his line in the same move on Vettel as Webber did in Turkey and Vettel managed to drive in a straight line and not steer into him this time!! ;)

Entertaining race. I was quite chuffed that Vettel dropped 23 places within 30 seconds of the race starting, slightly disappointed that the safety car helped him though..

Excellent results for McLaren. I wonder if Button would have passed Rosberg if he had had enough fuel. But then had he had more fuel, would he have jumped 6 places on the first lap..?

As for Alonso, he should have given the place back straight away.
If he was trying to gain as much advantage as he could in anticipation of a drive though, then fair enough. The penalty may seem harsh given that Kubica retired, but as EJ said, what else could the stewards have done?

Without going back and reading the rest of the topic...

Can not complain at this result really. Christian sounded pretty downbeat that the "wrong man" won over the radio. Hopefully Webber can do more of this over the year. :)
Wasn't too bad watching Vettel in the last few laps though.

As an Alonso fan, I was pleading to the TV for him to let Kubica back through. You just knew it would end poorly. It ended poorer than I could have imagined, especially given the pace he had.
I believe he was "doing a Hamilton" and seeing how long they'd take to make the decision, gambling he'd be far enough ahead of the pig slow Kubica. It was a horrid result but... He put himself in that position.

Yet another good result from a 14th place grid slot for Button, was good to see those moves at the start :)

Alonso disappearing off into the distance wouldn't have made any difference if Kubica was still running. He would have had to have slowed and given the position back. The drive through only came as the other car had retired.

As for the slow teams, there were some interesting figures in last weeks Autosport. At the last race the slowest of the new teams was around 3.5% off the pace. Webber and Alonso both started their careers in cars around 4.5% off the pace.
