British Grand Prix 2010, Silverstone Circuit - Race 10/19

You would have to be barking mad to suggest the ferrari is better or close to the performance of Mclaren. Alonso is on the edge on just about every session to try to get the Ferrari up there while his team mate pootles about in the lower end of the field.

They are making mistakes as a team because they are pushing hard with a car that isn't up to it.

If Alonso had a car that was the equal of the rest the championship would be over, hes making mistakes purely because he has to push so much harder than the rest with a car that isn't up to it and the upgrades they made just don't give the prmoised returns.

I can understand the dislike for the guy, he's utterly detestable but his race pace is about the best I've ever seen. If he was in a red bull no one would watch anymore because he'd have won last year and this year would already be over.

Yes Alonso is a big gay hissy fit but my god he is wringing the neck of that car.
i cant believe the ferrari is as bad as you like to make out alonso never fails to put in a lightning fast lap during the race and to suggest everyone other than red bull arent pushing as hard as they can is crazy.

your trying to say no one else pushs as hard as they can in Q2 and Q3?

arknor, the best way to see tell if a driver is "making the difference" is to check how he compares with his team-mate. Now, I'm not sure what is going on in 2010, but before Massa had his crash, he was regarded as a driver who, given the right car, could compete at the front end. Right now, Alonso is making Massa look 3rd rate...not 2nd rate, but 3rd rate.

And this is the same Massa who compared quite well against Kimi and MS. Against Alonso though, he isnt even coming close in terms of race/qualifying pace...and he knows it.

The funny thing is when Alonso has some form of penalty and charges from the back of the grid, and then catches Massa. For Massa, this must be disheartening.

IMO, in 2005, 2006 and 2007, Alonso was the daddy of F1. The issue I have is that Alonso is trading on past reputations and its been a few years since he was able to consistently win races.

In today's race, Alonso had the worst start of all the front runners and was trying to repair the damage, in a short space of time - the result...overtaking off the track and getting a penalty. Its these "errors" which make me wonder if he is still in the top tier or not.

Meanwhile, Button, though not as fast or as complete a driver as Alonso - was able to calmly drive from the middle of the grid up to 4th.

Danny said that he feels that Alonso is the fastest driver in F1...I disagree as I feel Hamilton is. I still believe though that Alonso is the most complete driver currently in F1, however, if he doesnt do something special soon, it will be difficult to continue saying that about him.

I admire Alonso greatly, but what happened today was so bad...you gotta laugh.

did button actually overtake anyone on the track? dont know why people act like button did a good job seemed he just stayed out long enough while others pitting to early.

massa just seems crap and i dont know whats going on with alonso but i dont think the ferrari is as bad as people like to believe, alonso is going to have a mental breakdown soon at this rate

During the race there were a few comentating blunders as always, them not having a clue what was going on right infront of their faces. What was worse for me though was the actual TV coverage. Several times nearer the end of the race the director kept watching alonso trying to take the force india when Vettel should have been the one we were watching. The onboard shot of Vettel going into the new section was amazing, yet we only really saw it once or twice. Several times I was shouting at the TV because the director was watching the wrong fight or just something random all together. I think they managed to nearly miss most of the overtakes. I mean why watch Alonso when he's 3 car lengths behind the car in front when Vettel is on the bumper of another?

at the end they stopped watched vettel , sutil , schumacher and whoever else it was fighting for position to watch the cars cross over the line for 30 seconds.

why cant they simply dedicate like a top corner of the screen to the people crossing the line so they can still show us any fights.

loads of times weve missed over takes because were watching the finish line and not the race, same crap when someone goes into the pitts aswell someone can be having an epic duel but as soon as someone enters the pitlane.....

hey look heres massa or alonso coming in for another tyre change exciting stuff lets not watch the overtakes

Epic weekend was epic and very hot :D

Just sorting the pics out at the moment. We camped at Whittlebury which has the hotel some of the drivers and staff stay at, so got some good pics of them arriving in the evening (was stood there fri and sat for two hours a time!) in their own cars. Was a bit weird to have the likes of Alonso, Massa, Kubica, Heidfeld etc all walk up to you :) I didn't know if Button was staying there or not as I wanted to get my flag signed but never mind.

Kangaroo set was very good. Could swap between the track commentary (average) and 5 Live and change to various on-board cameras of the drivers. Very customisable, so we had it interrupt all the time with the radio pit talk etc.

He might be a talented driver but he's also a petulant child.

exceedingly - and one that I am really not endeared to at the moment. Last year I thought he seemed like a nice guy but somewhere along the line he seems to have gotten something of a chip on his shoulder and a greater than thou attitude. Exemplified in my opinion by him driving into Webber and then suggesting that it was something Webber had done to cause it.

Some one needs to tell him that it's Formula One and not a demolition derby.

Brundle must be "barking mad" then :) ......not strictly true as he said it in comparison to Red Bull and not Mclaren, so Im guessing MB is off the charts lol

He is then, it's pretty damn obvious that on the whole the ferrari package through the fuel loads is nowhere near the same as the mclaren. Early on in the season it was woefull in dirty air as well.

It has a small window where the car is very fast but it's nowhere near the consistency of speed of the red bull or mclaren.

If Ferrari can get their act together Alonso would be untouchable with the kind of car advantage Red Bull have had this year. It's good for the season he hasn't and Vettel is to overtaking what Damon Hill was.

Alonso certainly had the better Maserati than Massa. Hard top, in black, black alloys and bigger rear spoiler!

The big 4x4 (7.3l diesel, 500BHP - lots of black smoke when going for it!) was owned by someone staying at the hotel but didn't recognise him. He seemed to know Petrov though, who came out and took it for a quick blast!

I couldn't get a pic of Alonso unfortunately, but he pulled up directly opposite and walked straight to us :D It was getting dark then so the only pics I could get were if they stood still for a sec. He was like a squirrel with his head down a little, quickly running to few people to sign stuff then ran off lol.

Few phone pics of Petrov and Massa

edit: almost forgot the pic below, note the writing on the camera ;) - this camera guy had the epic difficult job of being on the apex of the corner, so had to flip the camera right to left within a split second :p
