British Grand Prix 2011, Silverstone Circuit - Race 9/19

Charlie apparently said don't believe anyone saying that Merc will get the advantage being touted, he's happy that they wont.

Interesting.

Exactly. Hes happy they wont, and so were all the other teams when the Merc hot blowing was not included as part of the 10% rule way before this weekend. This is nothing new. People are only complaining about this now after having their own plans to sneak round the rules scuppered.

Renault teams were happy with the rule, the Renault plan to sneak round the rules failed, Renault teams are now unhappy about the same rule they were previously happy about. Yesterday was FIA fail, today is RBR sour grapes.

Its also worth noticing that this is about Renault and Mercedes engines, yet the people making a big thing about it are the RBR and McLaren team bosses...

Map changes didn't affect RBR as much because they cold blow.

Before last weeks rule enforcement, most people were saying that RBR will suffer in qualifying. This didnt happen.

Now, people are saying that RBR will suffer due to the rule change. It remains to be seen, but somehow, I still feel that RBR will be just as competitive.

RBR have many tricks up their sleeves and EBD/OTB is just one of many 1000s of tricks they have.

Agreed, which makes Horner storming around like a spoilt child in a tantrum over this 10% regulation even more pointless.

If i've understood what i've read correctly, all teams are allowed to do what the Mercedes powered teams are allowed to do. Its just that that would be bad for the Renault engine.

Is that right?

You have to ask yourself though, how do we know for sure that Renault are only blowing 10% at the moment? ;)

They could blow as much as they like during practice right?

Yes, would appear the cold blowing, or flowing all that air through the engine was also cooling or something for reliability, so will no doubt be allowed from the next GP, but not for this.

Although if RBR do well here, the FIA will just tell them to go away I would imagine.

Well they are subject to the same rules afaik, but we will find out in around an hour :)

Best article yet,
http://scarbsf1.wordpress.com/2011/07/08/10-rule-full-analysis/

So there is no 10% rule. God this has been handled badly from fia, why so much secrecy and lack of clarity.

So you can have hot blown or more cold blown and teams are free to implement such maps and all teams are the same, it's not special dispensation it applies across the bored.

I can't believe the confusion all because of unneeded secrecy.
