British Grand Prix 2011, Silverstone Circuit - Race 9/19

it applies across the bored.

Nice freudian slip :)

Good article, it is well known you reduce pumping losses by having good airflow through the engine (think of a diesel which has no throttle and only adjusts fuel and has less engine braking).

If this is what Renault have been doing, it is gonna require a new regulation to impact on cold blown diffusers.

EDIT: Just found a good article which explains this very well. http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=381109

Since I just got back this morning and am really confused, where do we stand with the blown diffusers at the moment?

At the moment afaik, teams are still jubject to the 10% rule that was intended for this weekend. They can ALL however run hot blown on the overrun as long as its within that 10%. It would seem that the Renault Engine can't do this though due to cooling issues.

Mercedes went to the FIA at some pint before Thursday and made the request/checkd that they could run an overrun to ease crank pressure. All teams were made aware of this in advance. During FP1/2 Renault then mentioned that they'd like to run 50% off throttle tyvm but hadn't mentioned it beforehand.

Charlie came out and said that anything brought to him before I think 10AM on Thursday would still be allowed. Anything after would not.

Horner looked very annoyed after another meeting with Charlie.

Vettel then set the fastest lap of FP3 while Mclaren sat 6th and 12th.

Hello lovely people. How are we all? Cant see anything but a Red Bull win again this weekend, am hoping otherwise though. :)

Lol @ all the people following Jake and the team down the pit. "look at me i'm on tv!!" Maybe i'm bias becuase I work in TV.

And I love Ted's animated description of EBD hehe.

Why is it all kicking off now? Wasn't it meant to be banned in spain, and put back because of reliability issues... so they have had all that time? Surely trhese guys can't be surprised.

Feel bad for mclaren - they have obviously done whats been asked and other teams are just crying now?

Wow I agree with EJ & DC it's a rule change and the only rules changes that should be allowed in season should be safety. Also agree with CH go back to old rules after silverstone.

This!

Agree 100% anyone who cannot compete will just have to suck it up and accept RBR have beaten them.

Rules have changed of been clarified mid season before. Just as teams who cant compete should suck it up, so should teams after the rule change.

If Renault wanted to do something they shouldn't have bloody left it until Friday to pop their head up and mention it. Thats the long and short of it. They were well aware of what Mercedes were allowed to do before then.
