British Grand Prix 2011, Silverstone Circuit - Race 9/19

For people saying red bull don't look handicapped - remember they often have a massive lead in quali and it gets pulled back in the race. So if they are just a smidge ahead in quali... the race will be very interesting!

Rules have changed of been clarified mid season before. Just as teams who cant compete should suck it up, so should teams after the rule change.

If Renault wanted to do something they shouldn't have bloody left it until Friday to pop their head up and mention it. Thats the long and short of it. They were well aware of what Mercedes were allowed to do before then.

Clarified yes, this is a wholesale change, and I am not talking about friday, I am talking about the decision to stop EBD weeks ago.

Sure, all teams have to suck it up, but when this rule change potentially makes the cars more dangerous midway through the season, I cannot see the rule change as a positive one just to stop RBR running away with it (and I hate to see RBR doing well, but they had? the best overall package).

Yeah they used to, but they cannot change maps between qualifying and race start so maybe that had an impact as well.

Also bear in mind that on a damp track (which is what we have right now), the performance advantage of the faster cars, tend to be reduced. To be fast in damp/wet conditions relies much more heavily on driver ability (in wet/damp conditions). A bone dry track is the best way to compare pure car performance.

They have not stopped EBD mid season, that stops at the end of the year. They have stopped the computer controlling the throttle when the driver isn't touching it because the rules at the start of the season said you can't have movable aero and the FIA has deemed that this IS movable aero because you are specifically making the engine into an air pump with the sole intention of producing downforce. On throttle it is just a secondary benefit to producing power.

If a team had protested it (which charlie has said was getting more and more likely) then the FIA would have had to stop it anyway because it can easily be seen as movable aero.

I too would prefer if rules were fixed for the season but thats not where we are and I can completely understand why they would stop it.

How do they do that? I thought it was a helicopter at first...

Its really simple and its been used in a lot of ball sports (american egg chasing, english egg chasing, footbal) for a while.

Its just a couple of wires strung between two points with a camera on like a chair lift. They can move the camera freely while it is pulled along the wire like a chair lift is.
