British Grand Prix 2011, Silverstone Circuit - Race 9/19

I'm sure that given the FIA tradition of letting Renault off for doing stuff that would see other teams DQ'd/banned (ordering a driver to crash, allowing a car to leave the pits with a loose wheel, possessing technical data of a rival team, etc), they'll cave and allow the Renault engined cars to carry on using the OTBD....

That would explain why the cars still sound odd in slow corners, then again I don't know what percentage = noise level, it could just be the position of the microphones.

Still, would not be suprised, ******* FIA

Any links to any of this, I know people have been saying that. But they would be disqualified.

No links as nothing official yet I think, or is still being written up.

I've included all of the F1 journalists I've been quoting from twitter though, all the info has been via tweets from Silverstone and team 'sources'. One of which says that the rule has changed from 10% to 68% which I mentioned in a few posts up.

This would also tie in with Christian Horner's interview at the start of FP1 where he was noticeably unhappy with the rules at that stage of the day, he said that Renault were seeking further clarification with the blown diffuser rules with the FIA. I can only speculate and say that this is the result of it.

I assume you have forgotten about the mass dampers....?

I really hope the FIA just say "right, no, thats it, 0%, STFU and get on racing, you bunch of children!"

But they wont, we all know it.

Seems Renault engines ran 50% off throttle pre-EBD, whereas Mercedes only fired overrun. ScabsF1 is tweeting explanations on twitter now. Article will follow later.

Ferrari and Cosworth basically will lose out big time, as will Mercedes but to a lesser extent it seems. Teams with Renault engines will retain 50% off throttle blowing, which basically means RBR will be as they were pretty much.

What about McLaren? It sounds like this is going to give RB an even BIGGER advantage?

I was talking about the engine suppliers, so McLaren will regain their fired overrun which is unlikely to be anywhere near as much Renault off throttle blowing.

So basically if this is all true, it seems RBR could well extend their advantage after these latest changes. If the FIA were trying to close the gap to RBR, this has back fired big time!

I don't get it? How can a ban on off throttle engine maps only affect Ferrari and Cosworth and allow Renault engines to run 50%?

I know plenty around here will laugh at the FIA because of this - I can't help but feel the season is about to get even worse.

How can the FIA spend 2 months implementing a ban, and then on the day it takes effect, have to bodge it because of things they seem to have completely overlooked?!?

What a joke, Renault and mercedes given special dispensation.

Wtf, I didn't think my opinion of FIA could get any lower, but it seems they were still pretty high and have fallen over a cliff.
