British Grand Prix 2012, Silverstone - Race 9/20

Cool. Then I would suggest spending Friday walking around the whole track. Scope out some good spots, get all the sights seen, and use that to decide where to head for Saturday and Sunday.

There looks to be some good GA spots around Luffield and at Vale. Also, you have to stand on the inside of the entrance to Maggots during one of the F1 sessions, the speed is just incredible!

Think I'm gonna try this on Friday :) That's the part where you're like 10 metres or something ridiculous from the track isn't it ? I remember walking past there in 2009 in my first year going enroute to pitch up at Becketts wondering why people would want to sit there just to see a flash of the car - for the sense of speed of course :)

Banked area infront of Becketts is pretty impressive

Cheers for the tips guys! Looking forward to it now :D

Yeah escpecially when they don't seem to practice with full safety gear on? Just seems bizzare to me.

Part of me thinks you can do all the tests in the world but nothing is going to compare to the pressure of an actual race.

Surely it was to test the equipment (which broke previously), not necessarily eliminate finger trouble caused by the pressure of a real stop?

IIRC one of the commentators said they were effectively using an experimental jack, which I found astonishing.

this has always seemed a tad odd to me, i mean i understand all that safety equipment must be pretty hot and uncomfortable, and there may be less risk in a controlled testing environment than in the heat of a race***, however i'm a firm believer of train as you fight, especially if they have the equipment available.
i dont go on exercise and train to do my job without my weapon, body armour, helmet and protective gear, its going to feel completely different when it comes to race time and they have the added restrictions and discomfort of all that safety kit.
i'm not saying this is the cause of the problems as i have seen many other teams doing the same thing however its certainly not going to help the situation.

And if that jack has done 800 pitstops it must be looking pretty second hand by now, hope it still works fr the 801st :)
i'd guess they wont actually use the jack that already has 800 stops on it, i'm sure they will use a new one of the updated design...:p

*** on 2nd thought maybe not considering the marrusia incident the other day.

Unless Kimi goes out with Batman ears on his helmet, I will be disappointed :D

The deal means the team's cars, as well as its garage, driver helmets and overalls, will feature the film's iconic logo throughout the Silverstone event this weekend.

Lotus said the movie's Tumbler vehicle will also be on display during the British Grand Prix.

"This season we have been the dark horses in the championship fight, so this partnership with The Dark Knight Rises is a fantastic match," said team boss Eric Boullier.

"Our car, the E20, looks superb with the Batman branding and we are looking forward to seeing the reaction of our numerous fans when it takes to the Silverstone circuit this weekend.

"We are certainly hoping for an epic conclusion for The Dark Knight Rises E20 in the grand prix."

That's quite a lot.

Before all their mess-ups they used to do many practise pit stops, yet still they have been making errors.

I think the McLaren pit crew are suffering from a combination of bad luck as well as folding under pressure.

They just have to accept that at present, they are going to struggle a little. Just as MSc rode out his bad luck, McLaren must also do the same.

There is no harm in practising, though.
