If you're going off TFlops alone then the 3090 would be 3X faster than the 2080Ti, it isn't, is it?

I was prepared to pay up to £1000 for a 4080 16gb but there isn't a chance I'm paying that (and then some) for a 4070 rebranded as a 4080 12gb just to artificially inflate prices and try and sell 3000 series.

I might consider a 3090/ti if they go down further but for the time being I'll be holding on to my 1060 6gb for a while longer and seeing what AMD might have on offer.

Maybe I'd be a bit less 'jaded' if we didn't have 2 years of being shafted with above msrp pricing....

Dont let Nvidia's marketing fool you the 12gb is more like a 4060, the 4070 rebrand is the 16gb version.

According to Nvidia's own slides its slower than a 3090ti so I expect it will trade blows with a 3090. So only if using DLSS 3 will you gain anything. And its looking like the 3080 12gb cards are going to be at least £1100. Even Gibbo says you are better off buying the Amp Extreme 3090ti for £999 than spending more on a slower cards which "might" give better performance in some future games.
 
The RTX 4070 has 7680 Shaders at 2610Mhz and a memory bandwidth of 508GB/s

The RTX 3090 has 10496 Shaders at 1695Mhz and a memory bandwidth of 936GB/s

10496 / 7680 = 1.36 (36%)
2610 / 1695 = 1.54 (54%)
936 / 508 = 1.84 (84%)

It has about 18 percentage points clock + shaders advantage but that massive memory bandwidth deficit will choke it, i think it will be closer to a 3080 than a 3090, its a 4070.

Didint happen on the 3 series launch so dont see why it would this time with most people missing it out.

It ran hot if mining yes but general gaming has never been an issue, my mates is still going strong and hasn't failed.. infact how many FE have failed from inadequate cooling?
The cooler isn't really a concern for me anyway as will be on for all of a couple of months if that while I wait for an EK waterblock to turn up .

1080ti vs 2070 super
- raster pretty close
- 2070 has DLSS & RT

2080ti vs 3070
- raster fairly close
- 3070 has better RT

3080ti/3090 vs 4070...
- raster probably similar???
- 4070 has DLSS 3 and better RT

the xx90 cards kinda screwed up the naming, should the xx70 being hitting the previous xx80 ti or xx90 ti performance to be considered good?
ignoring the nuts pricing increases :cry:
