Its the 3rd. They dont have to do anything.
If they don't care about losing sales, sure.

Nvidia may have bailed them out though. The reveal offered smoke and mirrors for performance and the only thing they made clear was that they want to overcharge.

Still, if reviews show real performance uplift, AMD could miss out on impatient customers who are itching for more performance.

I highly doubt it.
The kind of people who are going to buy the 40 series near-blind on release day, would do so regardless of AMD.

Anybody in such a rush to buy new hardware they buy on release, isnt going to be the most objective buyer.

If the launch was 6 months apart, maybe. But its less than 1 month.

No truly objective buyer is in that much of a rush to buy that they cant wait.

Especially not when the only 40 card coming out on the 12th is the top-tier insane cost 4090. The market for that is small. And those in it will buy blind anyway. Just look at the folks asking for pre-order...

Well I can only speak for myself but if I knew there was a AMD alternative for around the same performance of a 4090 for a lot less I'd wait for a month or so, but it's not something I'm going to gamble on and risk not getting a 4090 any time soon or at a terrible exchange rate.

I just don't think marketing departments... at least good ones think "There going to buy the competitions product regardless, so let's not even try" if they had a genuinely competitive product (at the top end).

You mean "Pre-scalped for your convenience"

Some people think the shortages of last gen are going to be repeated and will jump at the first upgrade than can get if AMD doesn't make the case that something better is coming soon.

It's not about objectivity. It's FOMO. If AMD has something compelling, they should make the case that buying Nvidia now will mean missing out on something better that's just around the corner.

The NV day 1 Lemmings will not be distracted from their course of action by price, an alternative or by anything else for that matter.

They will be buying a 4090 - simple as that.

Also, the 3090Ti experiment shows that there is a limit to what Nvidia fanboys will buy blindly.

Doesn't mean they'd buy AMD though just becuase they turned their noses up at another joke offering from NV.

Let's look today at 3090 and 6900XT - Cheapest 3090 you can buy today is £1100, while you can get a top notch Sapphire Nitro+ 6900XT for £829.

Do you think Nvidians would ever buy the AMD card even at a £300 discount?

Of course not.

The 6950XT MBA other day was £800... super bargain and at that price destroyed the 3090s and 3090tis and even made the 3080ti look silly for the price.

Like I said if I didn't need CUDA for my work and gamed only on the pc and wanted best value high end card then that was it at that time. Some happily snapped some up before the price bumps again. I was hinting to many go grab one or you will regret it soon and some took the hint and others now wishing they purchased one before the price bumps.

Do you think the market falls only into one of the two fanboy camps?

The other thing I notice is those that invested in the high end Ampere cards because it was better at RT than the AMD cards seem to be the ones ditching them for Ada already. Its chasing this ray tracing support and grunt that is supporting the milk it ecosystem.

This. Performance for cost the 4090 is the only Nvidia card worth having. With exchange rate pressure, Nvidia may end up making the FE closer to £2k as time goes by and most AIB are already past £2k.

So I would want to grab the 4090FE on the 12th but if I knew Amd were going to offer something better or close but cheaper then I would wait a month to buy theirs.

????? Everywhere seem to be doing 3090ti flagship Amp Extreme cards for £999 and normal 3090 for less than £900. So when you get down to £81 its a coin toss.
