BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

I had a few curious questions.

The 900Mb package, is the maximum achievable speed 1000Mbps? As far as I understand it 1 Gb ethernet port can't actually achieve 1Gb, it's 940Mb, is this right? Is the Ethernet port out of the ONT 1Gb or is it 10Gb?

What is the maximum achievable upload speed?

Thanks.

Nearly died tonight. ONT box had the red LOS light on. Seems Sky had an outage for about 45 minutes. I thought my fibre line had broke. I really need to get a damn smartphone. Hurry up iPhone 14!

Cuckoo basically resell TalkTalk so you get to use the TalkTalk network without having to deal with TalkTalk
Dragging up a slightly old post here. Do they exclusively use TT, or do they also use BTW too? I ask as I know they do PPPoE and TT (as far as I'm aware) is DHCP based. Or is it a case of Cuckoo being able to authenticate their own users?

@RSR are you a home user? If so, how did you get TTB?

Yes, I am a home user. However, I ordered TTB under a sole trader. :p

It's £19.95 +vat for a backup line with a static IP, which I have paid upfront for the year.

TalkTalk Business and Wholesale use PPPoE. They might use BTW as well but when I asked them they said it was TalkTalk.

Install went in today completely pain free. New overhead fibre to existing anchor point on house, cable drop following route laid out. Engineer used the drawcord I'd put in and came internally into the back of my wallbox I'd made a hole for.

Initially I was only getting 50/115 then the ONT upgrade/restarted (engineer said it would) and then after a ppp reconnect and the order completed I was up to full speed. Steam hit 960Mb downloading a game so I'm happy.

Ping time has halved to 8.8.8.8 as well.

Interesting. I'm seeing no blips on mine with the Thinkbroadband Monitor. Though Sky had a major outage last week after midnight or 1am ish.
