BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

Think it's a given with most fibre providers to have no traffic shaping, certainly haven't seen anything personally across 3 years with BT and Vodafone

A reply from Aquiss MD...

A very vague response. They should have this information with plenty of detail, on their website.

This is how other providers do it:

On Aquiss FAQ page the link to their traffic shaping more info is broken.

What about Traffic Shaping, Traffic Management, Traffic Throttling or Port Blocking?
A question that many services providers will hide in their terms and conditions or claim denial, or worst still, will deploy without notice. That's not Aquiss. Our approach is to be open and upfront, right from the start. This question normally comes from our more technical customers, so we have prepared a larger technical document which can be found by clicking here.

Is there any catch or gotcha to this? I knew they were doing Game Pass for new BT Fibre customers but didn't think I could get it as an existing one?

When I logon to BT site I see this down the bottom where the EE offers etc are:

Then when I click into it, it suggests it's free for 12 months with no contract time. Link I get sent to is https://my.bt.com/s/apps/appsmybt/#/xbox

Looks like I can add the 12 month version without any strings for no cost... I am not currently subbed to Game Pass.

Has anyone done this? Been with BT 900 for over 2 years never seen this offer appear for me before! only just renewed though.

Just had an email from Sky saying it's going up £3 in April.
BT have the 500mb cheaper than in paying for 150 so can I just swap now? Our do I need to phone sky. I think I get 30 days no early termination charge.

Bear in mind that BT prices will also be going up in April even if you sign up now.

In short if you want to avoid price rises don't re-contract until after they all go up.

I currently pay £32 for 150mb, it's going to £35.
BT is £30.99 for 500mb, is it likely to go up by £4+.

Just want to know do I have to cancel sky and be without internet for a while or can I just start a transfer with BT. It's usually done in 2 weeks isn't it so within the 30 days.

I think they knew what they were doing - get as many people onboard now and then price hike. Boom.

They not daft.

£17.99 VM M250, not had an email yet to say prices going up.
£12.00 O2 SIM

Both on 18 month contract but the streets not getting done with full fibre as of yet. Area is due with City fibre at some point.

I've had Full Fiber for years, it's a lot cheaper now than it was when I first got it. Think my first go with 150mb was £45.

the BT price will go up by almost 15% at the same time.

Don't cancel with Sky, just place the migration order with BT. Sky will then be in touch to confirm if you owe them anything to leave (if you're not in contract then you won't). If you cancel then you will be without a connection.

A search in this thread reveals little information about Zzoomm. Does anyone use them? They’ve been digging up the whole town these past few months laying their own fibre. Current ISP contract ends next month.

Usually each altnet will have their own thread, so either start a Zzoomm thread or see if there's an old one to revive. This one has sort of informally become the discussion about Openreach providers.

Spoke to the sales team at Aquiss was reassured that traffic management was only for emergencys and for a short period.

He went into say they have heavy users with 5TB of downloads per month and its not an issue. Plenty of bandwidth available and he said it was cheaper to supply bandwidth these days rather that traffic shape.

And 5wks for a new ONT these days.

Still need to get in touch, it wouldn't automatically deduct the early termination charge.
Turns out the 30 days is to tell them, they then just set your account to out of contact so you don't get charged for leaving.
So I have as much time as I want to switch now.

They did offer me Ultrafast for £32 but I've had a fair bit of downtime with Sky in the 6 months and zero with BT in 2+ years.

All done seemed a no brainer.
Sky = £35 for 150Mb
BT = £35.45 for 500Mb

Just hope Sky don't screw things up and try and charge me for leaving early. They haven't been the best.
