BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

I went with Bt Infinity as I couldn't be bothered to wait for Sky Fibre. The only reason I originally wanted Sky was for the Sky Active service but now that is available to all Broadband users I'm a happy man. Films take about 5 seconds to be ready to watch with my 38mb download and 8mb upload. Also looking forward to 80mb upgrade when that comes to my area. Wonder if Sky will get that?

Hey guys, quick question.

I have been on Be unlimited ADSL2+ for about 7 years and was only ever able to get 6mb download due to being a long distance from the exchange and having a noise ratio on my line of about 49Db.

I recently changed to Virgin 30mb and it is dog****, can't even stream a 480p youtube video so I have been looking into BT Infinity.

My exchange is enabled for BT Infinity but it says that I cannot get it, could this be due to my poor line? I thought my poor telephone line didn't make a difference as it is fibre optic that will be used? Does distance from the exchange still make a difference?

I typed in a postcode closer to the exchange and it says that they can receive 40mb, but when putting in my postcode it doesn't even show as BT infinity being availble despite being on the same exchange.

See if you can find your cab. You'll need to filter by postcode.

Ordered my fiber package last week. Engineer due out to get things up and running on Thursday (12th). Going to be paying less for more. Win win!!

Your road / block needs to be wired up too. i.e. as well as the equipment going into the exchange, local green cabinet (the one near my place was only erected about 2 years ago), they're usually shinier and slightly taller.

Hi guys,

I'm moving into my new house on Thursday.

It's a bad area for ADSL -between 2-5MB and Virgin Cable/Fibre is not available so that leaves me with BT Infinity.

I download a fair amount of stuff using torrents so I want to know;

If I go with Infinity then will I struggle to download torrents? What kind of speeds can I expect?

What other options do I have?

looks like I am definitely leaving BE come this month then :'(

Same, I only stayed because they offered a package stupidly cheap when I was about to switch to Infinity. I think I will be heading to Sky, depends on what bundles they offer with their TV & broadband.

Yea I really liked BE while I was with them their reliability had been excellent and had no problems with their speed of service or price.

However in the last 6month ish they have gone down hill a lot for high pings/reliability.

Today was the straw when I performed countless tests only to be told to call them up and their advice was to turn gaming mode off or put it back to standard/reliable setting which just wasnt practical considering I had been on the "fastest" profile for over a year without problems. According to them there isnt a problem on the line so for to settle for less service than I am used to just isnt on. Will 100% be moving.

I am on a rolling contract so should I do something specific to get ready to switch asap when sky release their service to compare them all?

Not really..... Just look at Sky rates (£20 + phone line + maybe TV) and compare to Infinity at (£26 + £10.75) and what is better for you? I'm hoping SKY will do some kind of bundle. You can ring up BE and get a MAC code ready to go.
