BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

This is about what we get at the moment after BT said up to Tuesday midnight for the upgrade to kick in.

The IP profile shows as 76Mb/s so we've been switched to the 80/20 package but it looks as though BT have somewhere a long the line not switched our download to the upper tier - the upgrade was applied for on line not over the phone so not sure if that could have been why!

BT are now offering free line installation if you get broadband and calls which is great for me, because I'd be able to get the phone line replaced for free if I can convince the parents to get Infinity! :) Hmmmmmm!

So how is everyones service so far, still havent taken the plunge yet but has anyone noticed a severe drop in internet speed/reliability since more people are obviously subscribing?

To date mine has been very stable, constant high speeds. Last night (check above) the speedtest results varied but as mentioned this can happen depending on server selected due to heavy demand and the only real test is downloading something which once again max'd out for me at 8.8Mb

Though if you read the last few pages you will find not everyone has been so lucky.

Ah well its still better than all the alternatives, just calling up BT now to see what deal I can get :) will let you know after :D End of the day I cant find anyone competing with them as skys upload isnt good enough and virgin are terrible for latency and over subrscription. Others just arent fast enough or comparable on price.

Good luck and make sure you do report back, good or bad :)

Ok I had been considering who to go with for ages and finally took the plunge as I was spending hours on end considering different options and waiting.

Called up 150 from my bt landline and went through the options to cancel (Always the best way to get a good deal as they seem to have the most power and best bargaining!)

45 minutes phone call!
Said I wanted to cancel line rental and when she asked why I told her that I have been offered a better option with talk talk for line rental / broadband. She says the may be able to assist me if I was interested so uhm and ahhd and eventually asked what they had. She immediately mentioned BT Infinity option 2 so I had got a great result straight away.

I went through all the details with her about installation as I had already arranged to cancel my broadband with BE for the 12th. My installation is for the 11th and consist of:

(12 month contract)
£17.25 Bt Infinity option 2 (78/20)
£4.90 Anytime calls
£129 Line rental (£10.75 equivalent)
£6 Home Hub delivery

Works out at equivalent of £32.90 monthly if you dont include the £6 delivery as my minds not working atm I dont know how to factor it in ahhah.

Probably could have gotten a better deal on line rental/anytime calls or even delivery fee waived but it was taking ages and its far cheaper than what I am currently paying so just went with it, still not too bad in the end!

How does it compare 2 you lot?

Seems like I got a good deal on the broadband cost then, seems the line rental was exactly the same and guessing it usually cost £4.90 for anytime calls package.

Yea I can certainly afford it but I am cheap ha, currently paying like £22 for internet and £19 for my line rental/calls

edit - for the past year or so purely because I was to lazy to switch over and I didnt want to renew contract with BE at the time as they were slowly going down hill, in hindsight I should have but it was better than being locked in and not having option to change.

I hated contracts but I purchased a house last year so I realise it doesn't matter about contracts any more as my mortgage is 15/20 years.
