BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

vdsl2 card ?

No, it goes from the modem in to a gigabit nic. It has been working great since it finally got an ip address.

I have tried disabling all services on pfsense, like snort, ntop etc. I tried disabling pf and all services on the remote box, but randommly the ssh session just fails. Everything else appears to be functioning correclty, sftp downloads full speed, games are fine.

ah so your using the provided vDSL model from BT. Might have a play about with it. I thought you scapped the whole BT kit and went for your fully managed own vDSL router.

That looks like the sort of speeds I am expecting - what did the BT checker predict for you?

54/13.

My line's a joke. Even though I'm only about 200m from the cab, the line for our flat had never been connected before we moved in so there's no telling what corrosion it's suffered over the years dangling from the side of the building.

Hi guys, hoping someone can give me some advice.

I upgraded to the free 80/20mb upgrade last Thursday and I was told by BT I could get atleast 74/16. I went ahead with the upgrade and it went through overnight, however it was at 30/5. Previously it was running at 38/8 stable for a very long time so I went through a lot of hassle with them and long story put short they said I have to wait 10 days.

I've reset my router a few times within the past week but still no luck getting the speeds up. I then thought I'd unlock my modem to see my stats:

Now it seems to me I should easily achieve those speeds quoted by BT but just wanted your opinion on the matter come Monday when it'll be 10 days up so I can put a case forward.

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

Try and keep the servers the same mate for testing. I wasn't home last night to try a test myself but I will be tonight, so for what it's worth if you want to compare a few it's no problem.

Mine this morning:

Cant say ive ever seen manchester server come up for me. Normally Scotland or down south in London. Must do another check tonight seeing its the 10th day and things should be "normal".

Mine always (well apart from London once when all my tests were rubbish) starts from Aberdeen and I select either Manchester or Coventry

I never knew you had the option to "select". Does this just a difference on the test itself or for your overall connection?

Also, are you using the HH3 or have you gone for a different brand. How does one rate the HH3. I wouldnt mind an extra GB port!

Yes you can select, just click / drag the cursor on the map of the UK to select a server then hold cursor over the white dots to see what servers are there and pick one by clicking. I guess you were just clicking begin test?

I use the HH3 and to date I've had very few issues with it that the odd reboot doesn't sort :)

Speeds and Pings seem to vary throughout the day. Early hours of the morning everything is full speed. Think there's a few bandwidth issues in certain areas with the new upgrade.

I think i solved my problem. I recently switched to putty tray which is a putty fork and for some unknown reason this was causing my ssh sessions to close. Switching back to the other putty mod i was using before and I no longer have the problem. No idea why though.
