BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

Still a few months off yet, but looking at the Infinity packages, it says on the one with no download limits they traffic shape p2p at peak times.

What are the peak times? And does p2p include newsgroups?

Peak times are 4pm to midnight (I think!).

No shaping of usenet traffic.

I've personally not been shaped with P2P yet, though I barely use it.

Cool thanks for that :)

Now just need September to roll on, thought according to the spreadsheet my mate will get an uplift of 0.82 so his shocking 3mb will go down lol

Having Infinity Installed on monday!

The Master Socket is in the Hall in a meter box
No plug sockets near it

I have my Modem and router currenty in a room at the back of the house pluged into and extention run internally from the master socket.

i believe infinity must be installed from the master socket?, so if i drill some holes so the master socket could be moved to the room at back of the house

will the engineer move the master socket?

any similar situations?

Thanks for any help!

I was in the same situation, the master socket was in our hallway with no power. Luckily the people who owned the house before had two phone lines and the socket for the second, disused line, went up the external wall and into the study, so he agreed to rewire it to create a new master socket (and then reconnected the other sockets as extensions).

This probably won't apply to you but the point is you need power near the socket and you should be able to work out a solution with the BT engineer.

Any body having issued tonight? My internet had just gone down at around 12am.

Hast cone back up yet. Iv tried restarting/off of hub and modem. Both cone back up but eventually hub just displays red light.

As a question when the internet does go down, should the hub login automatically or do you go into hub ui and click the connect button? The engineer who installed mine said it will log in automatically, but im not sure if it does...

Posting this from phone.

I had the same outage - back on now - the service checker says:

Wed 06/06/2012 at 23:09 : Planned works on the Broadband Network

We are currently improving the broadband network. This may cause you to experience a temporary loss of service.

Hmm...might have to look about getting an ethernet cable installed all the way from the downstairs bedroom where the hub is upstairs to my room :(

Yup, I had to go this route or my internal network had no way to keep up (kinda crappy wireless was the other option). Does at least mean I get everything possible out of it.

Would have used powerline but on a shared earth so that's lucky to hold .7M/b sec

Outage here too:

I lost my connection at around 12am and by 1am, it still wasnt back.

I tried turn off a few times the equipment but nothing.

Ended up turning it off overnight and now at work with no way of seeing if its back.

Defo planed engineering works?

It would seem likely as we all had outage at the same time - mine came back after about half an hour.

I disconnected from the hub a couple of times & pulled the infinity cable out of the back of the router & replaced it, but thats all I did...
