BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

Are you already a ADSL24 FTTC customer upgrading from the standard 40/10?

Soz for late reply, Yeah I've been an ADSL24 customer for a year now on the fibre 30 pro. Thought I'd take advantage of the upgrade.

How you liking the upgrade?

Cheers

Processing as i type, they have many orders to go thought that take a long time apparently, though i am and have been on 80/20 since March as i was on the trial. So its only really the usage times that will change for me. :)

More details here...

Yes, some have gone live, it's just a manual process to upgrade the service so the provisioning guys are working the best they can to process several hundred of them. Each one takes a good 10 minutes to do as there are various tasks involved to modify, update the product, check usage, sort out billing etc, so it will be done as soon as possible.

This thread is rather long! Apologies if my question has already been covered in the previous 6194 replies :).

So I’ve ordered BT Infinity for Business with 1 static IP. Sadly it’s not for my home as my exchange hasn’t been done let alone my cabinet, but it’s for somewhere else that I’m responsible for.

BT have emailed me:
  • Network login name *******@hg52.btclick.com
  • Network login password ********
  • Static IP 217.41.15.***
  • Subnet mask 255.255.255.254 (well duh!)

They’ll be sending a BT Business Hub 3 in the post before the engineer arrives for installation, and he’ll bring the modem with him. But obviously the minute the engineer leaves the BT Business Hub 3 will go in the bin :p and I’ll be connecting the modem to our load-balancing router... and herein lies my question!

So the settings for my router, PPPoE with the supplied Network login name and Network login password I assume?
And is it DHCP (the exchange DHCP’ing me my static IP based on the Network login name and password I’m connecting with), or is it manually configured Static IP? If it’s manually configured Static, what’s the Gateway IP Address I should use? BT have only emailed me the Static IP and Subnet mask.

I’m assuming I should use DHCP (and the exchange will DHCP me my static IP based on the Network login name and password I’m connecting with), because for manually configured Static IP I’d need to know the Gateway IP and BT haven't included it in the emails (I'd guess that it'll be 217.41.15.1 though)... but BT aren't planning on me using my own router anyways!

tl;dr "Settings for using own router"

Answer from BT Business Support Forum: Use DHCP, the exchange will DHCP the correct static IP based on the username and password I'm connecting with. Would only need to do manually configured Static IP if I'd purchased a block of 5 Static IPs, but with only 1 DHCP is fine.

Just got an email update,

"We are pleased to advise you that your 80/20 Fibre upgrade is now being processed. This upgrade usually completes within 48 hours but there may be a delay during busy periods.

The time of this update was 13th Jun 2012 14:16.

That's cool, so with a bit of luck I'll have it soon. w00t :D

I have had infinity for about a year and am on the 40/10 setup. In my account overview it shows I should get up to 76Mbps down. Do I have to do anything to get the higher speed? I'm trying to explain on a bt chat window for assistance but the girl is asking me what lights are flashing on the modem!

so despite being on whichever broadband package costs the same as infinity 2, bt want an extra £13 a month from us? how does that work?

You want Infinity 2 :) 80/20

Well the package BT labelled as "BT Infinity Home Hub 3" came in today. Opened the box, and discovered... it was simply two ethernet cables .

Get them contacted so the BT person can bring one or they can send you another ... BUT!.... check first bill as you may be charged twice (£6.00 per delivery).

It's fine, I'm not really bothered about it. I already have a HH3 since I'm a BT ADSL customer. But when I was ordering Infinity the woman on the phone made it sound like she was going to send us another one, and the label of the package is definitely misleading :p.

Yes but is this just a simple change they need to make or will it involve a new contract?

Phone 0800 111 4567 & ask for the free Infinity 2 upgrade, & yes it is another 18 month contract.
In my case I needed an engineer to visit, but most cases it's just a few minutes work in the exchange, usually within 48 hours you get the upgrade.

I have been reading about some problems with these upgrades on the bt forums just now so I'm not sure if it is worth doing or not. I currently get 36Mbps and the new estimate is 53.

Yes as mentioned it will be a new 18month contract though it should only be a change at the Bt side of things rather than your end ie. a house visit.

Also depends how long you are into your present contract as it might be worth waiting until it's finished. If you don't mind a new contract I'd say deffo go for it :)
