BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

I haven't, in fact I didn't even bother unlocking the Huawei and went straight to the Draytek.

Would you recommend testing with the OR modem as well? Do the sync speeds tend to differ a lot?

The speed can change a lot over the first few days mate, mine was all over the place, thats just the line stabilising.

I don't pay for line rental at present, I realise I probably will need to if I move to BT. I just don't want to be tied into an 18 month contract.

Look at an ISP / reseller which takes services from BTW (eg Enta) - FTTC is a 12 month contract with them. Line rental can be with anyone.

Anyone else having problems reaching certain sites eg amazon.co.uk, tvguide? (amazon.com is fine)

My BT IP is 86.151.168.178
I'm using OpenDNS servers.

I accidentaly rebooted my modem about an hour ago, but the problem existed before.

Quick question guys. I have been reading on this thread people stating that they are using OpenDNS or GoogleDNS servers. It might sound 'funny' but what is wrong with the stock DNS servers BT (or other providers) use by default? Apologies if this is a daft question...

Usually they are a bit snappier, ATM I'm using the BT one and have no problems (Latency is lower to BT than it is to Google DNS for me.).

If you run DNS bench, you can see which is faster for your connection, decent program :).

Quicker, more resilient and built-in anti-malware URL protection.

Sorry guys, you've probably answered this loads of times before but I can'd read through 100+ pages!

Are newsgroups throttled by BT fibre?

Looking to get the Infinity 2 Option 2 service as its a tenner cheaper than Sky's.....

thanks in advance.
