BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

BT FTTC is enabled in my new house/location but Sky aren't???

BT block p2p I've read? Any other downsides

Website shows the below when I checked

64.2Mb download
20.0Mb upload

The only other downside (and unfortunately a big one) is that their customer service is shocking!!

I've heard much about how crap their CS is but for them to mess up my order before I'd even joined them was just taking the mick completely! - Waited two weeks for them to convert my line from sky to BT, and was told to wait and someone will call me as soon as its done to setup the fibre broadband. I had to chase them the following day only to be told actually you havn't signed up to any broadband services!! wtf - I even had the order number which was confirmed by email showing my whole order and they still didn't know anything about a broadband order.

Not a good start at all? :(

Can't see why Sky can't supply me fttc if BT have enabled the area?

OK i was not trying to upset anyone here, but if you care to look at my post rate i am totally new to here and have no idea what speed the members have on this forum. In the time i have been using a PC people on other web sites would consider my speed slow compared to theirs.

Too slow? Are you taking the p*ss? as posted by someone else.

My cabinet finally changed to live on the checkers this morning, so placed an order, and the first appointment was 08/10/2012 :(

Got my reply from Openreach

Thank you for your Fibre Broadband enquiry,

The exchange that your line is fed from (Downland) is enabled and accepting orders for cabinets that have already been deployed.

However the cabinet feeding your line PCP 3 is not due for deployment until Phase 10A which is Q1 (April/June) 2013 the cabinet in question is current planned as FTTC.

Please be aware that the engineering required to commission a Fibre Broadband cabinet is often complex and should conditions on the ground change, there is a small risk that the delivery date may be effected. Please track the date for commissioning through the line checker of your chosen service provider.

Many sites that show Fibre Broadband availability dates only show when the Exchange goes live and not individual cabinets off that particular exchange.

I hope this helps to clarify why the site you are obtaining this information from appears to be giving conflicting information.

At least I finally have a time frame! I was getting worried my cabinet was going to be cancelled for some reason.

I am having Infinity 2 installed on the 24th sept, what's the procedure when the engineer arrives? what exactly happens? my hub arrived today too.

The engineer just left. I was estimated to be getting 68Mb up and 20Mbdown. Before and after results:

In the engineer's diagnostic equipment I was synchronizing the full 80/20. But to the PC the most I got was 64Mb. I guess it is getting at that time of the day and it might have dropped a little because of that. I shall try again later tonight .

Run the BT speedtest (Java).

Not the news I was hoping for..:( a couple of months delay.. Hey Ho
Thanks for your enquiry.
Your line is connected to Ashton in Makerfield cabinet no 38. We are working hard to deploy fibre broadband to this cabinet however further work needs to be done to the cables. We anticipate that the cabinet should be ready in December, however thus is an indicative date.

Best regards
Jon Rose
