BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

Cant believe I just got this email back...

I live in a busy town and am right at the hub of the place... everyone road around mine.. ( no more than meters away ) have fibre installed.. I bet its because my cab which is yards from my house is right but up against a coffee hut and they wont let them put the new fibre cab next to it :(

Hi Lee
Thank you for your enquiry regarding fibre broadband.
I can confirm that your line is connected to Witham cab 50.
I am sorry to inform you that the upgrade of cab 50 at this time falls outside of our current fibre deployment.
Therefore we cannot give any assurance that your cabinet will be upgraded.

As I’m sure you are aware, we are deploying one of the fastest and largest commercial deployments in the world. Our commercial deployment will have extended to 66% of the UK by the end of December 2014. We aim extend this to 90% of the UK, in partnership with other sources of funding, e.g. local and National government. As your cabinet is not in the current footprint and in conjunction with other areas within the UK where cabinets are not commercially viable, government funding is available to county councils and if you can, it is worth registering your interest on the Essex County Council website.
You may also wish to lobby your local councillor and/or MP on progress in your local area. You can also register your interest on the Openreach website at: www.openreach.co.uk which is also the best place to get information on our deployment.

I am sorry to bring you this news and I appreciate it is frustrating but we are deploying Fibre Broadband using a commercial model and are currently not able to provide service to your cabinet on that basis at this time.

Best regards

Looks like a standard response Lee. If it makes you feel any better (I guess it won't) I had to wait 18 months while others in the same street (different cab) had Infinity. I feel for ya buddy.

Whats makes it even worse ... I just checked my road and the first three house are connected to this poxy cab... My next door neighbor goes from another pole to another cab... lol its a semi detached house!! they can get fibre...

can you ever request BT change the cab your connected to?

to be fair I'm happy with the 20meg I get now with Sky.. its just the upload.. there are things I want to do from home that a 1 meg upload just don't cut..

ohh at least i can still watch Prawno's

It's all very well enabling new exchanges, not much use if you CAB isn't upgraded as well.

Yeah, my exchange went live today but my cab didn't.

The when and where checker is saying accepting orders but the talktalk page is saying Jan :( (it was saying October yesterday)

Is it worth e-mail that guy at BT and if so what's his email?

What am I looking for on here?

Says FFTC enabled? It's not specific as Sky FTTC though exchange code SMSTF

Whether Sky is enabled fir LLU which means they have their own equipment in the exchange. If they have getting firbre enabled for them should be straight forward. Be warned though when BTO update the list of cabs that have been fibre enabled it takes some time to filter to the other IPS's.

Try giving sky a call and see if they can check their latest list.
