BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

I moved into my house in June when the date for my cabinet said June. I signed up to BT Broadband to then upgrade at the end of the month.

The end of the month came and the date was changed to september. So I waited!

The date has changed to December!

I am so MAD! the only reason I went for BT broadband was to upgrade in Infinity.

There are many cabinets on my exchange already enabled for infinity.

Apologies for asking this because I'm sure this has been answered before, but I've found conflicting information about what actually gets installed for BT Infinity on the net (we're having it installed next week).

Does the engineer bring the new router with them? Is it just a BT router that is needed, or is it a BT router and an Infinity modem? (i.e. 2 power outlets are needed for 2 boxes). It says on the invoice that 2 sockets will be required.

Also I've seen a lot of installations with a box screwed to the wall. I assume this is not a requirement and I can just ask for the box(s) to be left on a unit near the master socket?

The engineer brings an openreach router, you get the home 3 hub delivered to you a few days before and you need 2 power sockets free.

Nope you do not need to mount it to a wall unless you wish to then i think they can do it.

My speed has gone to 56mb overnight wierd does anyone know why? or is that normal sometimes?....even after a restart but the line been very stable though.

Thanks for the response Sycho.

I was hoping I would get away with only needing 1 socket free since the phone uses one of the double socket, seems like I will need an extension lead!

Feels a bit old fashioned for the modem to be a separate unit to the router, I wonder why they don't make them all in one

Just been told our cabinet is not on the rollout plan, despite there being numerous new cabinets a stones throw from where we are, yet our own cabinet is a mile down the road.

Frustrating!

I wonder, is it possible to get access via some kind of business installation? I own a company so don't quite mind the idea of paying to get access to the elusive fibre!

The dates are subject to change as it says. If the area around you is able to get infinity it is likely your cabinet has been deemed commericially unviable and won't be enabled.

Get in touch with Openreach to find out.

Here we have also been put back to 31 December..Hope this isn't a trend..:(

It's a holding date which basically means only that your cabinet was part of the initial rollout plan but has yet to be enabled. Get in touch with Openreach if you want some information if it's been dropped or still in scope.

Just a word of warning with BT. Anyone who plays World of Tanks may find the game is unplayable at the moment.

Lags, disconnections. Wargaming are blaming BT, BT are not doing anything. Seems to be a routing issue through to their servers. Fortunately I am most unaffected but there are threads on BT's and WOT forums about it. For some been going on for about a month.

well their website said end of september. Then again, it said january last november so i don't know why i got my hopes up. Surprise surprise it's now saying December.

I am disgusted by BT to be honest.

Projects take time and hit problems such as blocked ducts. I'm sure they'd like to have everything done tomorrow but resources are finite.

I'd expect all the flooding this week to cause further delays in some areas - is that BTs fault?

lol

Pick your toys up and put them back in the pram.

They are holding dates, not actual dates.
