BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

Date pushed back again now to December, I am holding out hope after my reply from dga that it is scheduled for 17/10/12.

On a plus note the next cab from mine down the road has just had a "Fibre now Available here" stick put on it so hoping thats a good sign

Its poor of BT to keep making themselves look good by just releasing 100+ more exchanges when most only have a few cabs enabled, not to mention the installation of FTTP.

As usual the already fast are getting faster and the slow get left behind

I unplugged everything after turning hub plus router off, re-plugged all wires in and it now works? odd... oh well hope it stays now.:p

Turns out I can get it now too, what package should I get?

What does the speed estimate give you? i went with package 2 as i find it enough speedwise and wasn't sure if i would get near 100mb speed but turns out i would.

Question, does an engineer need to turn up to install it?

I was thinking I am getting a MAC code from Entanet tomorrow, cancel it and sign up to BT Infinity.

I am heading to the states next week for 2 weeks, and hoping it'll be online when i get home!

Would it be that easy or does someone need to be in my house?

They usually upgrade your line free of charge in the future anyway but to be honest it's more than enough...i am downloading Steam games at 8.5-9.5mb/s which is great for me.(my BE line did only 1.2mb/s max when dling them, that's file transfer rate by the way not speed)

Engineer comes and installs everything.Took mine only 20-30mins to do, they will replace the front panel on your phone socket then wire up the hub/router after testing your line.

Someone needs to be at your house yes.

Can you specify a day? I have a day off after NYC.

Yep and a timebracket.(it's either 8am-1pm or 1pm-6pm)

My engineer arrived at 3pm and left by 3.30pm, was a nice guy and helpful even showed me the equipment explaining many things.

Ah, cool, will get it ordered before I leave and hopefully can specify the day when i come back to get it installed.

Currently on 3mb download !!!! Can't even play through an Apple Trailer without having to pause a minute it for it to catch up!

By the way it's connected from your nearest cabinet not your exchange....there's probably one near you without even realising. They connected me to a cabinet about 200m or so away and I didn't even notice it walking down that area sometimes.:p

Yeah you will get very good speeds with your estimate, wouldn't surprise me if you get same as me.(was 75.5/17.5 last night and my estimate was 63/20)

I already have a BT phone line that I pay quarterly on....the above can't be right, right?

Or would the phone bill now combine with BT Infinity?

I just selected that, pretty sure it doesn't add onto your current and just adjusts it to £14.60 as some people pay different to that.

BT have been putting the cabinets all around for last month and was going to call Plusnet tomorrow to get the mac code as date was set for 30th but now dates been pushed back quite gutted as i get 2mb and was looking forward to having fibre next month
