BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

The HH3 arrived yesterday. Shame it only has the one Gigabit port but never mind, I'll just have to keep the switch for now.

I do have some questions for the existing folk though if you'll indulge me.

Has anyone gotten away with the engineer not installing any stuff on their computer? I assume you don't actually need whatever comes on the CD to connect since I've never needed it to connect to any other router.

The email I got from BT says that they put a new faceplate on the Master socket. Is there any reason they couldn't put it on the the next one in the chain?

My Master socket is in a cupboard by the front door which then has an extension which runs through the stud wall, around the laminate in the hall (under some beading), through a brick wall and into the living room bay where the TV and server live.

The email says that the 30m of cat5 that they can run for you must be "only go along walls - not under carpets or floors." What are the chances of him going through a wall where needed?

It's not a major issue if not as I have the bits to run my own length of string from the cupboard to the bay if need be.

If it's the same guy that installed my phone line a couple of years ago he lives about 12 doors up from me so will probably be here first thing in the morning like he was last time.

I'm all excited!

Where a cabinet is just rolling from holding date to holding date it's extremely likely to have been deferred from the rollout subject to being removed.

It's likely the cabinet is not deemed commercially viable to them due to expected uptake, high power costs etc etc.

The holding dates mean nothing and if you've missed 4 'dates' already then it's likely you aren't getting enabled.

Contact them for more info.

For what it's worth to those still waiting. I was originally listed as "By December 31st 2011". That then got pushed to March, then June, then September. It's finally got done, but then my cabinet has been installed for about 4 months, not not connected up.

No surprise but my date has gone back to Dec 2012, so that's now:-

Sep-11
Dec-11
Apr-12
Jun-12
Sep-12
Dec-12

I know that my CAB isn't going to be upgraded so I wish they'd just take that date off the site ;)

There is a good chance I will be moving soon so I will make sure when I do the I can get Infinity 2.

Engineer never installed anything on my pc, didn't need to use the CD, just plugged the modem/HH3 in & away we went.
Everything was pre-configured.

Have done after each time it was moved. Waste of time

Been here before with you KIA, clearly you dont care as you have your infinity and its easy to be smug and say email them.
Why you feel the need to come on a random internet forum and rub it in i don't know

Holding date pointless, contacting them pointless, just have to wait it out

Paste the nga.enquiries response.

EDIT: I had a look at your post history.

Date pushed back again now to December, I am holding out hope after my reply from dga that it is scheduled for 17/10/12.

Yeah, emailing nga.enquiries was clearly a pointless exercise & waste of time.

My line been syncing 56mb since 2 days ago which it then was 75mb, would the speed gradually creep upto 75mb again? i've only had Infinity 2 option for nearly 4 days now and was wondering also if rebooting router can cause the above?

Apparently the reason for my line being down a few days ago was a fault somewhere which an engineer fixed today who even knocked on my door to tell me what he had done.Line seems very stable though since that incident not one dropout and nice latency.

Thanks, E-mail sent.

Thank you for your Fibre Broadband enquiry.

During our deployment we sometimes encounter problems with our roll out plan which can unfortunately result in a delay to our initial plans, delays vary from 3 months to 12 months depending on the scale of the problem. The sort of issues that we encounter are things like blocked underground cable routes, disputed land ownership and the existence of unrecorded underground lines for utility companies to name a few.

If our forecasted lead time improves this will be reflected on the micro site for your exchange and on the line checker of your chosen service provider, as things stand the target date is 21/11/2012.

Post above is word for word what I got with different date

Yeah, emailing nga.enquiries was clearly a pointless exercise & waste of time.

Of course it is, they just fobbed me off with the first date he could pull out the sky, he answered nothing about the delay of any of the other questions I asked,

You dont have to look far to see that most of the responses from that address are a quick copy and paste job with the usual drivel about planning permission, techincal delays and so on, why dont the give us the same access to data that they have? He supposedly has one thats telling him the 17th. It would sure save them a lot of time answering emails

The 17th will come and go with no change for me, if this was the case why would it not state on the checker......cause its a load of bull,

Wow ok... from my experience the holding dates are that - the cab at the end of my street was the last to go live in the area due to power issues. I didn't email but spoke to an open reach guy direct one day in town. The tracker said end of this month (after moving several times) but the can actually went live on the 13th of this month. Who'd have thought that getting a power cable to a cab right in a town would be so difficult.

Man arrived at 07:45, extended the master socket to the secondary one which was in the bay so no long run of ethernet was needed.

Only took about 20 minutes, most of that was me moving the TV and stuff out of the way since he was early.

Very happy :)

I just got email from Openreach and explained why is my telephone exchange isn't FTTC choice yet and I can't believe what it say below:

Dear Mr ********

Thank you for your communication to NGA enquiries about the availability of Fibre Broadband at Cuckoo Oak exchange.

I am extremely sorry to inform you, that the upgrade of Cuckoo Oak exchange at this time, falls outside of our current upgrade footprint.

However, the Welsh government has announced plans to roll out fibre broadband as part of its own initiative.

This is being rolled-out with Openreach, and all enquiries must go to the Welsh government.

In the coming weeks and months a help-line will be set up for Welsh resident enquiries. In the meantime,

Information about the project can be obtained from the Welsh Government web-site.

And I had reply to him below:

Dear Peter,

Cuckoo Oak is NOT in Wales. It in Shropshire (Telford & Wrekin Council) in West Midlands but why is Dawley and Stirchley (3 miles away from Cuckoo Oak) is already enabled. Doesn't make any sense to me. There is also other area in Telford had FTTC are: Donnington, Newport, Oakengates, and Wellington.
