BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

Meh!, for 330Mbps I could convince myself its worth it ;)

For those speeds, so could I. :p

If I purchased a Huawei off Ebay would it be as simple as just swapping the ECI modem over with the Huawei and it would auto pick up the connection on the Huawei and continue running as normal?

If I end up with an ECI, I'll likely hit eBay and get an Huawei.

Really slow Internet browsing tonight :(

Not just OCUK, but all of the sites I use. Tried OpenDNS settings in my laptop and it made no difference.

Download speeds are fine - bizarre.

Any ideas?

Getting the same here, not just to OcUK but seems to affect some sites worse than others, seems to be a fairly wide area issue. Suspect LINX is having problems.

It isn't that difficult! See my link above. There is a solder-free method.

Still involves opening the modem up and buying extra stuff tho - if I'm gonna order extra parts, etc. I might as well just order a replacement VDSL modem thats unlocked out the box :P

Just done a bit of testing now with the BT speed tester and my connection and got the following....

Connected direct to Modem - 74.42Mbps down, 13.46Mbps up.
Connected direct into Router - 73.25Mbps down, 8.36Mbps up.
Connected into switch - 59.62Mbps down, 5.50Mbps up.
From my desk (which is connected to same switch) - 70.47Mbps down, 8.25Mbps up.

Can't understand why I get a better speed from my desk which runs over a longer cable back to the switch, than when i'm stood next to the switch with a laptop direct in.

Seems to be though that the Draytek router and potentially the switch is sapping the upstream somehow.

Just turned off some QoS that was enabled on the Draytek and the upload has jumped up to 11.5Mbps'ish........wonder what else is holding it back.

Try connecting your desktop directly into the router and let us know what you get. It sounds like your switch is also playing a part - what model switch is it?

I'm not messing around taking my desktop machine down to the server room and plugging it in!

The switch is a Gigabit HP one......HP V1810-48g.
