Engineer coming out on the 2nd to set us up. N66u ordered too.
Hmm.. how to get cat6 upstairs..
If the cable runs are 0 to 20 meters (and higher) I wouldn't bother with cat6 for home use.
I had this same debate with my self this week.

Openreach has confirmed to ISPreview.co.uk that the first locations to trial its FTTC (VDSL2) Vectoring (ITU-T G.993.5) technology in the United Kingdom, which could eventually help ISPs to deliver download speeds of up to 200Mbps (Megabits), will take place in Barnet (London) and Braintree (Essex) in England.
Interested to hear more about this. Although I've long since moved out, when I lived with my dad I had one of the oldschool engineer adsl installs which ran a socket into my old bedroom. Does that mean it is suitable for FTTC? His exchange has recently been enabled, and I know this sounds stupid to most people, but one of his concerns about switching to fibre is how much upheaval having an engineer round to do work would cause (if they can just plug it in where the current adsl extension resides, that would be ideal)
Openreach has announced that ISPs in the United Kingdom will be able to offer its new 220Mbps (20Mbps upload) capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) based ultrafast broadband product to their customers from 1st June 2013. Final prices have also been confirmed.

Already available/covered by commercial upgrades
You are in an area which already receives superfast broadband through the commercial market or where there are plans to provide it before 2015. For this reason, you do not need to register with the faster broadband campaign.
The Hampshire Broadband Programme is not able to tell you when you are likely to be upgraded, as commercial suppliers only announce this information a few months before the upgrade is due to take place.
We will refresh our postcode checker as this information becomes available to us, so please keep returning to our website.
Speeds currently available in your area
Superfast Broadband
Type: BT FTTC xDSL
Up to 8Mbps basic broadband
Type: BT xDSL
The maximum speed your line can support is 6.5Mbps.
my home hub died today and eventually got BT to send out a replacement. The Support people obviously have a script and dont deviate from it. They insisted on checking the line despite the fact the HH was only flashing the power light and I could not ping it or get to the web page. Once the 1st line guy had done this a 2nd tech called back and insisted on doing it all again but told them to stop wasting time as its not a line problem.
Anyway, new HH on way and now using the hacked firmware im able to connect my switch to the white modem and get wired internet access.
in fairness they were pretty good but not used to having a customer who is a network engineer so techie vs techie is never good.

10 days is now over!!
