BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

How many do you need ? Just get a 5 port gigabit switch for about £15. Probably be able to pick a TP-Link up for a tenner.

Thing is with BT providing 1 gigabit port equates to the minimum spec provided to allow you to connect at this speed. I can't see them spending the money to produce a HH5 with 4 gigabit ports.

Had Infinity a while now and it is great except for few (minor ish) things.

In Firefox the HH3 sub menu is white text on a white background... in IE the blue box comes down further.

And in Civ5 it seems to be lagging a lot, very slow to play. Whereas on the BeThere provided router; a Thomson box I think, Civ5 was fine.

Edit: tinkered a bit. IE Tab 2 solved the HH3 issue (probably made new ones no doubt...) :).

And as for the the Civ5 issue... I had changed Steam -> Settings -> Download -> Internet connection to cable/fibre > 10mb. Putting it back to DSL > 2mb seems to have got it back to how it was. Dunno if my Steam download speeds will be effected.

Over my homeplugs I get 25Mbit/s down when the homeplug on the other end is connected into the HH3 Gigabit port or the standard 100Mbit ones.

When connected directly into the OTE (Openreach Modem) via PPPoE I get 50Mbit/s (still using homeplugs).

Is my HH3 faulty or something?

Just had mine installed.

Was expecting speeds of 59 but i'm getting near 70 so well happy.

Much better than virgin (100mb) , everything seems to be much smoother, no buffering on YouTube and Iplayer and much less lag in games.

Very happy

Just tested a direct connection to the Openreach Modem and I get the full whack

But direct connections through the HomeHub 3 can't ever go over 30Mbit. However wireless speeds can go to 50-60 Mbit.

Is it just that the HomeHub is crap? I'd have thought that the modem supplied for BT Infinity would at least be able to support the service it was provided with.
