BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

Roll on when FTTPoD is available.

I'm hoping it will be a fit and forget install. Fed up of constantly waiting for "the next best thing", so having a true fibre connection should ease that for the foreseeable future.

What's the chances of seeing it before Christmas 2013? (Assuming we already have FTTC)

RESULT! I am moving house on Friday and as of today the on-line checker is saying that Infinity is available at my new property. As of Monday, it still wasn't available :D

my question is, wouldn't that be bad practice having multiple lines sharing this one cable, or am I misunderstanding the situation?

I cannot see multiple pairs in this cable in the DP as it is up the pole, but anyone with experience, can you comment on this?

It will be a multiple pair cable that feeds from the carry pole to the DP and then individual dropwires from the DP to each premises (these are normally one or two pairs). Standard practice so not bad at all.

Well BT have started to put the fibre cabs in round me in Bamber Bridge, and just wondered if anyone could shed any light on how long it normally takes them to go from install to operating?

Could be a while yet. Ours cabinets have been installed for over a month now. I saw that our local one had the power connection made just a week after it was put in. There's no fan sound coming from it though. I haven't got a clue if the DSLAM is installed or the fibre blown though yet. There is also equipment to install in the exchange itself.

Do you get any projected date from any online checkers? For us they don't even say that fibre is coming at all!

Don't worry I have the same issue with my iPad 4gen (ios6) although it only seems to do it if its doing bandwitdth intensive tasks like video streaming. I would update it but it seems the wifi issues still exist hopefully apple fix it by ios7. Oh and a windows7 laptop seems to do it as well but only when multiple wifi devices are connected as the home hubs radio is poor.

Yea it makes streaming YouTube a nightmare because I have to keep exiting fullscreen mode to reconnect the WiFi. It wouldn't be so bad if the iPad was able to reconnect itself in the background though while I continue watching.

I've noticed it seems to happen mostly at night say after 10pm or so when I'm trying to watch a few clips before I go to sleep. But then again, I rarely stream earlier in the day as I lack the time.

Over a year so far here but it does depend on a lot of factors

Well thats not looking good, currently with BE and when saw fibre cabs thought might wait and see for fibre before seeing if I can get the sky deal. Just been to cab that my house is connected to and there's no fibre cab there, but one further down the street has!!

well might ring and see if I can get the sky deal.

Ditched the HH3 today as i'm having a few problems with my upload speed dropping to Zulch. Using a DGND3700v2 just as a temporary measure as I ordered the HH4 (35 Quid) still loving my speeds. ;)

Mine seems to have appeared back on the checker today too, still says the 30-Jun-13 placeholder date though. Was quoted early to mid august from that email and going by roadworks there's still work to be done this week, but Openreach now say "Accepting orders" but no one is... it's all very confusing :p

We have roadworks and work around the cabinet. Maybe they're disconnecting it :p all but I'm still going with that email.

Suffering the flashing blue and orange Broaband light on my HH3 again after I got home at 9pm! Normally a few reboots of the HH3 and OR modem fixes it but its still down at the moment. Started getting this a few months ago and it was only last month an engineer came around and he replaced the modem with a slightly newer one. All his tests showed the connection was a fine 76Mbps odd coming up to my socket.

Seems like the modem is having trouble syncing with the exchange. Some times in the past it would connect fine but I would be capped at 20Mbps as my IP profile keeps getting lowered by the exchange.

Gonna have to call BT India again in a bit because I'm having to use my O2 dongle for now!

My address has appeared on the wholesale availability checker today, for the first time.

Via e-mail they gave me a ready date of early to mid August but the checker says "available Mar-14".

Yeah it disappeared off the checker for a lot of people until yesterday. Take what it says with a pinch of salt though, mines just moved back today from June to Sept which is down to automatic quarterly placeholders.

My estimate from e-mail is the same as yours but our cabs are getting done right now with all of them apparently live in the next couple of weeks. Check the Openreach where and when site, the openreach twitter for announcements and also roadworks in your area.
