BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

ZOMG, mine has appeared on the BT Wholesale Checker for the first time ever!

WBC FTTC - Up to 51.5Mbps Downstream - Up to 13.2Mbps Upstream - 31-Mar-14.

How accurate are the estimates normally? For ADSL2 it says 7.5/1... whereas my modem syncs at 13/1.2

BT will not give me fibre even though my exchange is fibre enabled...

Thank you for your enquiry about fibre broadband. Your exchange cabinet is not in the Openreach commercial roll out of fibre broadband. Our deployment is based on the commercial criteria for each cabinet and your cabinet fails to meet the commercial criteria. This is because the cabinet has too few premise connected to it, rendering it too small to provide a return on the investment based on the costs for the construction and on-going running costs of providing a new FTTC cabinet.

Greedy gits.

They are usually slightly under what you get. Good chance you will get around 60/17 give or take.

If you know where your cabinet is, and read this page you should get an idea of realistically what you can expect.

VDSL2 deteriorates quickly from a theoretical maximum of 250 Mbit/s at source to 100 Mbit/s at 0.5 km (1,600 ft) and 50 Mbit/s at 1 km (3,300 ft), but degrades at a much slower rate from there, and outperforms VDSL. Starting from 1.6 km (1 mi) its performance is equal to ADSL2+.

OpenReach estimates are fairly conservative towards the higher end of the speed scale, and more accurate towards the lower end. :) For example, the ADSL checker says I'm estimated for 59.1Mb/s down, and 20Mb/s up. I'm 320M from my cabinet (by road), so I'll probably get ~75Mb/s.

Yesterday: Fibre optic broadband is estimated to be in your area by June 2013

Today: Fibre optic broadband is estimated to be in your area between June 2013 and September 2013

Why you do this to me every time BT :(

It's been pushed back every 3 months since like july 2012

Should new installs now get the homehub 3 or 4? I had infinity 2 installed last week and got a homehub 3, not 4, surely I should have got the latest model?

I got given a mid august eta from the openreach enquries, however BT wholesale checker states 31March 2014 :(.

WBC FTTC Up to 40 Up to 6.5 -- 31-Mar-14

6.5 upload? That's a bit low?

Might be better off staying with Virgin after all :(

My address has appeared on the wholesale availability checker today, for the first time.

Via e-mail they gave me a ready date of early to mid August but the checker says "available Mar-14".

Me too :( Just checked and the FTTC is showing for the first time also but the date's moved from mid -late sept 2013 via email tp mar 2014 on checker. Boo

My exchange has just changed in the last couple of hours from "Future exchange - end of 2013" to "Coming Soon - September 2013".

It looks like most cabinets in the area are now installed and have seen a hell of a lot of Openreach activity in the area so hopefully the estimate is fairly accurate.

well just been on checker and it's been updated to coming soon from future exchanges, so things are looking good there, but there's still no work on the cab i'm connected to, might have to see if there's any alternatives!!

Wouldn't mind but I can see the vm cab 50m away in a straight line, but they won't run a cable to my house!!

*sigh*

My cabinet has now been pushed back to 31 March 2014 - an hour ago it was 30 June 2013, and OR told me it was planned to be available by the end of May 2013! The fibre cabinet is there, it has cables run between it and the PCP.

What exactly is the point in siting a cabinet, connecting it up and then leaving it for a YEAR?

Checker has just updated to coming soon - december 2013.

Hopefully should see it sooner than then as the other exchange in the area is being upgraded ~ september 2013.

I thought anything after 1st June 2013 would get a HH4, did you have a HH3 sent to you or did the engineer provide it?

Got my HH4 Yesterday (£35) I admit I not too impressed with the stand part of it. Don't really like it to be honest and the plug was a bit of a bugger to get in at first but it seems to be working fine. Hopefully no more upload issues I had regulary with the HH3.

Slightly down from usual but nothing a reboot will probably solve
