BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

Three days on with Infinity 2 and the HH5 and all is good with speed and wifi but I have one problem. Google Chromecast has stopped working.

The Chromecast devices are seen on the network and talk to smartphone/tablets but when it comes to stream the music/video there is nothing. Just can't get it to work. It was working fine on BT Broadband and a Netgear DGND3700 modem/router. I’m completely stumped with this one.

They just had another offer up on the website. I managed to just get an order finnished for my uncle for the 80MB Infinity 2. It says £37 a month + his evening and weekend calls by direct debit monthly with no setup fee and free HH5, BT Sport and 50GB Cloud storage.

Best of all i get to keep the Sainsbury's £100 voucher and flog it for £99

:D

Cheers for that. :D I should be getting around the same as you then...when OR eventually see fit to power my cabinet... :p Just out of interest, what were you quoted on the ADSL checker?

The checker gave me "Up to 61.3 -- Up to 20".

My connection status now is:

Downstream: 78.12 Mbps
Upstream: 19.53 Mbps

:D

I'm curious, how do we actually get fibre? Do they put fibre cable to the property when they come to install it? Is it already available in the street etc? Appointments booked for Thursday to have it installed, how long did it take others, on the actual day, for the engineer to have completed the job?

We already had BT Broadband so there was little for him to do. He called before he came:

Plugged in a monitoring device and Home Hub 5 into the old faceplate - 5mins.
Went off to our cabinet - 20 mins.
Came back fitted new faceplate, did a speed test and job done - 10 mins.

He might spend more time looking for parking than doing the job. :D

Only if you're getting FTTP. If you're getting FTTC the fibre will have gone to your nearest cabinet it will use your standard copper line into the house, and they don't need to do much work at all to install it.

Not sure if anyone else is getting problems right now... some serious issues to the states on my infinity connection. :/

Terrible here for me as well today. Numerous complete connection losses.

It has taken me a while to be able to post this.

Been having problems myself, noticed it in FIFA and Battlefield, really bad lag at times even though ping was 18 and sometimes even disconnections from game but when I checked my router log it didn't show that it had went down.

BT customer services seem completely retarded. It was nearly impossible to order, but I got there after going through a specialist team.

They didn't send manage to have my order ready before the engineer came so the engineer provided a homehub 5 but not a youview box. No youview box arrived so I called up to get one to be told I already had one, it had come in the post with my homehub. I tell them they are mistaken so a new youview box is sent out. Today it arrives with another homehub 5.

Not had any welcome pack, not been charged anything

:D

Well my number on the ADSL checker quotes me for 59.1Mb/s down, 20Mb/s up so I'm not too far behind you. :D

One thing I've noticed from the posts in this thread is that if you're quoted 20Mb/s up, you tend to be within a reasonable distance of the cabinet; once the quote for the upload speed starts to tail off, the download speeds seem to taper towards the 45-55Mb/s range.
