BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

My exchange has been enabled since March, my cab however isn't getting done by Openreach they've referred it to Superfast Cymru who have an 18month estimate.

Despite being in the middle of 4/5 other FTTC cabs in the middle of a big residential area, OR aren't interested

I feel your pain, BTO won't give me any info and keep referring me to Superfast Cymru, after a few emails, came back to me several months ago, my cab is being considered for FTTP, which i'll probably never see for another 18months.

What Annoys me is all the surrounding cabs are all connected up to fttc

So i'm just gonna keep on and on and on to them till they do something.

Good luck! I gave up as I'll likely be moving within 12m anyway. When OR refer it to Superfast Cymru/BDUK etc it basically means they don't have to pay + charge them over the odds for installation of the cab - so it's a double win hence their reluctance to do anything.

For the likes of Superfast Cymru et al, they've having to do more than anticipated due to OR deciding rural means something different  and hence have more cabs to do, costing more money...

This is what the MP's report complained about a few weeks ago, but there's not much anyone can do really.

Hi,

just had plusnet installed. BT engineer came and gone. All working however i'm paying for fibre should be getting about 54mb.

However i#m just getting 8mb. Engineer said to see what happens 7-10 days. Is this 'normal' ?

Do you mean the speed test results ?

If so I get 7.42 download / 0.20 upload. Ping 138

Nope. If you use that link I provided and after the initial speedtest press the "Further Diagnostics" button below. It will then run a more detailed speedtest and provide you with a couple of IP Profile results. Copy/Paste that info on here.

ahh rubbish. says test error

The Performance Tester is currently unable to run a speed test for your broadband connection. Please try again shortly, however if this problem persists, raise the issue with your service provider.

Just had Infinity option 2 installed yesterday with the new HH5:

Hot damn!

Nice.

We're finally getting ours on Friday. Does the engineer do anything else apart from plugging in the HH5 and checking the connection?
Puts a new faceplate on the master socket and plugs in the modem.

I am now on Infinity!!!!!!!

Yet another openreach administrative £*!$ up. I had FTTC installed Monday morning. Engineer arrived on time installed the faceplate and modem. Although we struggled to setup my router we got there on the end.

Received an email from my ISP this morning saying that the engineer was unable to access the property to install the service and I would be charged for the missed appointment. I don't think so!!

From the GD thread about things we bought…Cosimo and his HH5 router…I am in a position to get a recontract for my BT Infinity.

The reason I want an upgrade is because the HH5 has a 4 port gigabit where HH3 only one port is gigabit?

I want faster network all round no matter what port I uses and more consistent wifi so that is an upgrade with the HH5, the down side is I already have a white box….now I don't want the hassle of ripping that out of the wall myself nor breaking anything so the question is…

1 – Do they send out an engineer for HH5 install?

Or they don't,

2 – How easy is it to change over.

3 – If I were to get my own router to replace the HH3, which one should I get?

Seems your luckily not on the crazy routing a lot are on - some crazy **** *** at BT seems to think Somerset and Sheffield are close to each other :( so I get an extra ~12ms on my latency before I've even got close to the internet itself.

Are they making the HH5 available at a discount to existing customers who still have a year before re-contracting, like they did with the HH4 (which I held off doing so I still have the HH3 and the VDSL Modem)?!?!?!

It's be very nice to get the extra plug socket back again! :)
