BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

Did anyone get a software update to their HH4 last night, or is it just me, the revision number ends with .17 instead of .10 with the hub type changing from Homehub4 to homehub 4 (rev a) - so far my drop problem hasn't happened today.
Typical as my engineer is booked for Monday... I'm tempted the keep the booking but I don't want to be charged if he can't find a fault, even though I can show it from the device log :(

You can check to see if you had a firmware upgrade by looking at the TR069 entries in your Home Hub Event Log under Troubleshooting. There you should see entries for the firmware download and also when it was installed.

Yeah, I just didn't know if anyone else had had an update. Latest that I can find on google is .10 yet mine is now .17 which is newer (even fronm the BT page that details the latest firmware for each HH) and so far appears to be more stable, along with a different layout under the connected devices section.

So far no drops since this update, but the engineer is due tomorrow - slightly concerned they will charge me if they can't find a fault, but I can demonstrate this from the TR069 log.

I have had BT infinity since July(previously was with telewest/virgin for 7 years, sky for 18months)

Now when it works its amazing, note i said when, not always the service but equipment!

Had no end of problems with it, i am currently on my 4th Homehub, the first 3 were homehub 3, the current one is homehub4

I have had the line go down 2 times since july, (last one being last tuesday) and i am unable to use this for a couple of days
Rang up to cancel as i am fed up of this now, told i cannot cancel due to 'technical issues'
So i quoted i have just received my price increase letter, and it then got cancelled!

To be fair, they have always been helpful when ringing them, but to have this many problems in 4 months is ridiculous

It gets disconnected on Nov 28th and i will have no internet until Dec 3rd when i get virgin media installed again!

Quick question - I'm moving into a new flat at the end of month , currently have sky fibre at my parents - it's totally unlimited, newsgroups run full pelt without any shaping. If I get infinity in my new place, will I have the same level of service? I will get it for BT sport mainly . Are there any good deals for infinity at the moment? Cashback etc??

Hi all, sorry to quote myself - will i be able to use newsgroups with infinity? or p2p? are they throttled?

What is this AC dongle you speak of? Is it a USB wifi adaptor for your pc that is being bundled with the HH5?

When I placed my order I had the option to add BT's Dual-band AC Wireless USB Dongle for the reduced price of £19. As my laptop's internal wifi isn't dual band ac, I thought I'd go for it.

It's a little large and a bit of a faff using it as it sticks out so far. It's liable to be knocked and damaged, especially if using the laptop on your knee. But it has allowed me to now stream HD media wirelessly to my laptop without issues.

How did the installation go?

It went well. The engineer turned up about 0845 and was gone within a couple of hours. A thoroughly nice chap. Quick and efficient.

I asked him about the dongle (which wasn't included with the HH5) and he suggested I call BT. As it turned out, just as he was leaving the Postman delivered the dongle! :)

I'm now the proud owner of a very respectable 55Mbps broadband connection.

There's been an issue with Caller Display (Privacy At Home) not being enabled on my line; but as of a few minutes ago that has been re-ordered. Although, it's a little confusing as I have just learned that the feature will no longer be free as of January 2014 and I think I have to re-register to sign up to it again 'as a new customer' and commit to a 12 month contract (I've just signed up to an 18 month one) to get it free for 12 months. :S

Just had an email from openreach. Turns out I have an E/O line thus I am directly connected to the exchange. The only way to get fibre is to annoy the local council as they get government funding for this sort of thing.

Is there any way to find out which cabinet my line is connected too? and if it has a planned date for Fibre activation?

I know my exchange is activated, I can even see the exchange when looking out the window which is really annoying!

You are probably connected directly to the exchange like I am. Thus you are out of luck as they won't upgrade you due to it not making financial sense.

Newsgroups are fine, never throttled.

p2p is throttled at peak times depending on how busy the network is.

No shaping in Naan_H's case because he will have one of the new packages.

My HH4 shows the version and upgrade date on the home page at the bottom.

BT Home Hub 4 (Type A) | Software version 4.7.5.1.83.8.130.1.10 | Last updated 06/06/13

This is mine:

BT Home Hub 4 (Type A) | Software version 4.7.5.1.83.8.130.1.17 | Last updated 22/11/13

Engineer came today, and found that the external master socket hadn't been bypassed correctly and e wires were also corroded. That was fixed and gave me an extra 1.5mb in each direction (result!)

It's just dropped me twice in the space of 15 mins (bad times) :(

Edit - 3 times in 45 mins - aggghhhh! :(

Anyone got fibre with zen?

When the BT engineer comes and fits the modem, is it a HomeHub, and if so how do I completely disable the ability for people to pay BT to use my wireless connection (which is super cheeky IMO!, let alone dangerous!)?
