BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

Ah, the standard Zen myth typically propagated by Zen users. Actually you'll get comparable service from other ISPs - for less (ex-Zen user).

As someone who has recently migrated from a premium expensive ISP (Eclipse Internet) to a really cheap one (TalkTalk), i can relate to this. My service is identical bar the ability to get straight through to tech support (how often do you need that?).

My opinion is that bandwidth is simply a commodity these days, get it as cheaply as you can. A lot of the issues above will be backhaul congestion which will affect all BTW isp's. If the issue is ISP specific simply move to another big cheap ISP.

One of my mum's best friend had talktalk fibre 80/20 as she getting 76/19 all day, all evening & weekend with no congestion at all as she is with talktalk llu as the ping even low too at around 5ms. She never had any problem for the last 4 months now as her fibre cabinet is approx 10-20m away.

The problem that I can see now is that ALL fibre packages require a phone line subscription.

If you like me, I don't use the phone at all I don't even have it plugged in. The only other services are all capped data rates, which costs a premium. I wish they did packages where you didn't have to pay a subscription to have a line and the cost of the fibre was all you paid.

I'm 2 month from the end of my 18 month with BT Infinity 2... not sure what to do. I hate these 18 / 24 month contracts!

I'm with Zen. Had no issues with them. Called up twice in the 2 months so far and straight through.

I was a BE there customer and only moved because I have moral objections to giving Murdoch any cash and when I moved house I would have had to move to SKY.

So i tweeted at Superfast Cymru for when I can get Fibre, response......March 2015...Completely devastated.

Just looked at their map, I guess you were one of the unlucky ones :(

Aber's due to get it in a few months apparently. I've noticed one or two empty cabinets around town, although I have a funny feeling that my street will miss out as well

Consider yourself lucky, my new house ins on an unplanned exchange, if it wasnt for the fact that its right on the exchange and should be max speed ADSL2+ i wouldnt have bought it. moving out of town was a great idea but the internet wont be half as good.

Its quite unusual to find a 21CN exchange without FTTC planning isnt it? Are you sure that it isnt a 20CN?

not really. a lot got upgraded before the bduk stuff was finalised, mine being one of them. so its 21CN and getting fttc by end of jun.

You have planning, mine is 21CN and is marked for the end of June FTTC RFS too.

I mean a fully "NC" exchange with no plans at all, surely there cannot be many 21CN exchanges in that situation? 21CN upgrades are not everywhere and were only generally done to at least semi sizable exchanges which likely at this point have BDUK plans in place even if those plans are not for a while to come. If i take the whole of Oxfordshire for example (my BDUK area) there are no 21CN exchanges with no plans, all are at least at the CS, FE, or UE stage.

you'd be surprised with how many holes are still in bt's network. i know of smaller exchanges then mine that have had fttc for a while. would really love to meet the people who plan the role outs.

That is so as it is rolled out with geographical sense with regards to the network. I am still not sure how many 21CN exchanges there can really be with no BDUK rollout plans? 21CN exchanges are just not that small to have no plans at all. As i say in Oxfordshire there are none, i cannot imagine there being too many nationwide as 21CN isnt very common in smaller exchanges.

I am interested to know which Exchange "House" is on for it to be 21CN but with no plans, if anything just to see its size. :)

yeah i get what you mean about the role out geographical plans, but here they missed my exchange and jumped to one 6 miles away thats smaller hence i think someones having a laugh or just picking names out of a hat.
