BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

Took the dog for a little stroll on friday evening and it appears some of BT's contractors had a busy bank holiday working on the cab I'm connected to! :)

no worries - seems the norm atm :(

same with VM even

I can see being tied into long contracts for mobile phones if you take out an expensive phone - but these broadband/phone contracts (in general) seem to be taking it way too far IMO I can't see the justification

My cabinet just down the street was upgraded to a FTTC one sometime in March and they finished the digging and electrical cabling about two weeks ago but I still can't get it?

Does anybody have any personal experience with how long it takes from completion of a cabinet to the actual offering of the service to domestic customers?

I'm in a similar spot mate. Mines been installed and wired up for nearly a month now. Exchange and the first few cabs went live about 2 weeks ago but still waiting on mine. I assume they're still doing tests on it.

From what I've heard from various people the average time is 1-2 months but it can vary.

I wouldn't put too much faith in the DSL checker either. Spoke recently to my mate who lives in the Swansea area. They got FTTC recently but all along there was no indication from the checker that it was even coming. Also last year my area was upgraded to 21CN WBC, the checker didn't even register this until a good few weeks/months after the upgrade. Even now, despite FTTC being available in certain areas of my town, no one seems to show it! There's a 1-month old cabinet about 15 yards away from my flat but apparently there's no FTTC planned for here . Might just be a Wales thing.

The only people I've managed to get any sense out of are the folks who run the Superfast Cymru Twitter feed (they are covering the BDUK rollout in Wales). Some of their replies are vague but they do at least respond to enquiries, which in this day and age is rare! Not sure if other areas in the UK have this, might be worth checking out :)

Yea I've been tweeting them an all. To be honest I don't understand if their reluctance to give cab specific info is them really not having enough resources or down to BT not allowing them too.

Having said that I'm sure I saw another superfast project had published cabinet info along with go live dates but can't for the life of me find it again!

Due to get BT Infinity 2 tomorrow as my local cabinet was upgraded a couple of weeks ago.

Last speed test on current service.

mine goes active tomorrow as well but with sky, got the router sat waiting to be plugged in, says not until tomorrow. wonder if it will work at 0001 :D

Anyone out of contract negotiated a cheaper deal? I'm currently paying £26 for option 2 but thinking of jumping ship for a cheaper deal.

It'll work but no fibre till they activate it obviously :D Connected mine straight up as soon as I got it.

Had mine put on today around 10:30am, getting the full 40/10 and has been rock solid all day so will hopefully stay that way as not to far from the cabinet.

My experience was that it took just over 2 months from the footings beting dug and the cabinet shell being put up to it being ready for service

It'll vary massively, it took nearly a year after the cabinet I'm connected to to go live because they had to run a new electricity supply.
